John:

I didn't have the drop out problems I just couldn't get the .m2t stream to write to the camera, lthwaits replied he couldn't get the .m25 stream to write reliably to the camera.

I just can't get CapDVHS to record to the camera, the record button in CapDVHS doesn't start the camera in capture or write everything is done manually with the physica camera controls. The only option for recording is to put the camera in camera mode and press record, this action only records a black screen because the information is comming from the lens.

In MSP8 Beta when exporting to HDVideo there is a preview screen with all the camera controls on the bottom. You then hit the red record button to record the video back to the camera. MSP8 has more information in their .m2t file because the Womble .m2t file won't write any information to the camera where the MSP8 .m2t file shows on the camera screen/viewfinder while it is recording.

Will keep you posted.

Terry,
I have started a thread at http://www.sonyhdvinfo.com/showthread.php?t=3214 and have received several replies. No one has come forth with much detail about using CapDVHS, yet. I wil be missing for three weeks on a trip and I hope that you will be able to squeeze some information out of these guys.

Taking another tack, I have never been keen on using an expensive camcorder as a playback device. But I thought that it would be the first and easiest method of playback. There is a new product, the TVIX HD M-5000U , available in October, http://www.tvix.co.kr/ENG/Products/TVixHDM5000U.aspx. In the USA, their website is http://www.tvixusa.com/. This device is portable and can have upto a 500GB disk drive. According to its specifications, it can play mpeg2 files in high definition. It has a component video interface that will drive an HDTV. One note of caution, earlier models claimed to play high def files but reportedly downconverted them to 720x480...

Maybe you will have all this worked out by the time I get back.

Good Luck,
John
