White balance- why two sets of temp and tint controls?
Like the title says, why two sets of temperature and tint controls with advanced options enabled? All I really want is a single point white balance that equalizes that point to grey (equal RGB values). How can I insure that? I'm using X9 and 2019 but I think it's similar in other versions.

I don't personally know the answer but the help files say this
Smart Photo Fix (as well as various other commands) has an option to set white, grey, and black points in the "before" pane. Just select the White balance box, then click on areas in the "Before" pane to have PSP try to auto-adjust. You can also do this with the Curves adjustment.
This suggests to me that the top ones tell PSP the white balance of the scene, and the bottom ones provide the actual adjustment to tweak the white balance based on the original white balance set by the top values. But that is just a guess. If you know what color temperature the photo should be, you can set precise tonal balance values by marking the Advanced Options check box and typing or setting the temperature values in the Temperature and Tint controls in the White Balance group box. You can tweak the colors by adjusting values in the Temperature and Tint controls in the Enhance White Balance group box.

Wow, I never looked at those unused commands. That's useful. I'd still like to know the logic behind the dual temp and tints.

Good luck. Tell us how you fare. It is my surmise that the people who developed the unused commands are not now employed by Corel. I'd be happy to be wrong about that.CHoffman wrote:Wow, I never looked at those unused commands. That's useful. I'd still like to know the logic behind the dual temp and tints.

The unused commands are excellent commands developed at the time of Jasc, mainly by Kris Zaklika's team of Russian mathematicians. They also developed the excellent Background Eraser. The young Corel people who took over PaintShop Pro thought they knew better than the old ones and put these controls aside to add their own, often more difficult to use and not always better.ehume wrote: Good luck. Oddly, even the unused white balance tool doesn't seem to produce exact matched RGB values for the selected point, though it does work better than the default tool. It's surprising to me that a clear explanation of something so basic as a white balance tool is so elusive.

Don't use a one pixel size Dropper. At least 3x3 or 11x11 if possible.CHoffman wrote:Oddly, even the unused white balance tool doesn't seem to produce exact matched RGB values for the selected point, though it does work better than the default tool.
