They answered already.
In Windows Settings- System Standard Apps, select Internet Explorer as the default for websites.

Restart the system, start Internet Explorer, and disable advanced protection from the setup options.

Such lovely, detailed, step by step instructions!

First of all, if the default browser is changed, the system does not have to be restarted.

I do not use Internet Explorer unless there is no other recourse, so the Advanced Protection option was not checked to begin with.

Needless to say, it did not work on my system. Maybe we should try Edge? :)

It's not the browser, it's the key used to communicate with Google. A (relatively) simple change to the code to replace an instance of "client=gme-corelcorporation&channel....&..." with "key=AIza......&..." where the key is one obtained from Google, gets it working without changing browser settings or reinstalling PSP. QED.
As has been said, we shouldn't have to do this but I couldn't hold my breath long enough waiting for Corel Support when I needed to geotag a batch of photos. Additionally I have a vague recollection that some other software vendors/suppliers (including Sony?) removed Google Maps from their products a few months ago.

Corel Support appear to be unaware that the browser used within PSP is specified in PSP settings. Have a look at File/Preferences/File Locations/Web Browsers. I haven't been brave enough to switch to Firefox, say, but might do after a system backup!
UPDATE - removing Internet Explorer and adding Firefox in (x64) PSP's setting did not break PSP and my geotagging, as amended, is still working. Oh - but that test has cost me 1 map load = 0.7 US cents off my USD200 free monthly usage!

Well, that's just one of those hurdles you also talked about.
For the first three mails your contact at the manufacturer is a monkey, drawing cards from the "standard answers" deck ...

I wrote to Logitech a couple of weeks ago, because my "n" key gets stuck from time to time and Iadded the URL to a video of that.
Their first answer came ten days later, telling me to remove all the drivers, shut down the system and reboot.
Yeah, for a hardware problem.

First two steps of the support ladder is full of monkeys.

I also logged this with Corel support, and via web chat i was informed that "Google broke it and we are not going to fix it" !!!

I found the htm and .js files in the GeoTagging folder and i have an API key from Google. I changed the googleadvanced1.htm file by changing the following:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?clie ... "></script>
to
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js ... "></script>

i now get an object error in the debug window - is there somwhere else i need to change the API key.....?

Any help would be great

Thanks,

All, i now have my maps view working correctly - it would seem i have a keyboard / finger interaction issue.... :D

Thanks to Andy2011 - i read the posts agin and he gave the answer i was looking for:
This is the original line in C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2020 (64-bit)\Languages\EN\GeoTagging\GoogleAdvanced1.htm
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?clie ... "></script>

If you do generate your key, please secure the key - instructions on goolge cloud platfom will direct you on how to secure, mine is locked to HTTP calls to maps.javascript.api only

I replaced this with:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?key= ... "></script>

dont forget to save a copy of the original, if your using Notepad or Notpad++ you will need to 'Run as Administrator' to allow you to save back in the same location

map view now works great, the only element i havnt got to work is the 'places' small map in the right hand side info bar

Thanks

But you all can't be serious!
It can't be OUR job to get a personal API Key from google and to change the original code of the program?!

I agree with you Marco, Corel must fix this ASAP as the they are selling a product that is broken....what are they going to do - issue refunds to everyone who has purchased it recently...?

I use the geotagging function all the time and also use it to find photos taken in a specific country which i why i decided to fix mine as i dont really want to ditch the investment i have made and move to another product

I guess this will get very interesting.
I don't believe that other tools do not use Google Maps, so they will all face the same problems :-)

I think you need to alter another file in a similar way ..EN\GeoTagging\js\GoogleSimple1.js
For my own part, I haven't got the search box to work - it throws errors. Google console reports them as well. I haven't had the inclination to "get down among the weeds" again to try and fix it.
Perhaps stating the obvious, if you use both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of PSP, you will need to alter both sets of files - Program Files\.. and Program Files(x86)\... I have left (x86) alone so I can do a quick, occasional, test to see if Corel have fixed it. Ha ha!
By the way (and another clue to a simple solution), I found the structure of the key= element in the code by looking at how digiKam worked. I thought it best to get my own key, though.

to get the search function working you need to enable Places API - i had the same problem

if you want google street view to work then enable Raods API

In all my playing (testing) i have used $0.04 from my $200 monthly allowance :D

Thanks for that - I had enabled the API but it was unchecked in the API Restrictions! As I said, getting Google set up was more difficult than changing the PSP code.

A further concern is that Corel will 'update' PSP with a patch and remove the geotagging facility completely. I will not be applying any updates until I can be sure that geotagging still exists. ( Currently have just 1 Windows device so possibly just update the 32 bit?).

Come on Corel, get your act together. If you can't reach agreement with Google, have a look at implementing Open Street Map's Framework. (It might be cheaper to pay Google a few USD than redevelop or lose functionality and customers.)
