It occurs sometimes that I want to crop/cut a digital photo.
When I start dragging a selection rectangle then I am completely free in defining the height and width of the selection.
Thats fine in some cases.
For other cases I would like to keep the current aspect ration.
That means the ratio of height vs. width of the selection rectangle should be exactly as the original photo.
How can I achieve this?
Is there (in PSPX2) a "keep aspect ratio" option?
Or a script command?
I don't want to fiddle around with pixel calculation and manual crop adjustments.
Selection rectangle adjustments should be done automatically by PSP.

Try the Crop tool.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

In PSP 2020 the standard selection has a Selection Style in Tool Options.
Choices are Normal, Fixed Size and Fixed Aspect.
Set the values in Height and Width.

Could you show a screenshot of that? Standard Selection was unchanged from PSPx4 - PSP 2018.jorgensen wrote:In PSP 2020 the standard selection has a Selection Style in Tool Options.

Re: Draw a selection rectangle AND keep aspect ratio?
I find the OP statement a little confusing.-
First they mention 'crop/cut a digital photo' implying use of the crop tool
then they mention a selection rectangle implying the use of the Rectangle Selection tool.
Is the purpose to crop the image or to have a Selection rectangle of a fixed ratio?
If using the crop rectangle they can chose (I avoid saying select, selection etc as that can imply the selection tool when crop is intended) to maintain the aspect ratio and then save that as a preset for later use. They can also move the dimensions of the crop rectangle and make a larger or smaller rectangle.
Now if they are referring to a selection rectangle and want to change the size of the selection rectangle and keep its aspect ratio then they will have change to Edit Selection
Selections > Edit Selection
or on the layers palette the rightmost icon under layers Edit Selection
In both cases the selection rectangle should turn red (ruby)
Now switch to the Pick tool and by dragging from any of the 4 corners you can scale the selection rectangle which maintains its aspect ratio. You can also move the rectangle around to get it just right.
