NOW WHAT'S THE MATTER!
In laymans terms if you/anyone out there in forumland would be so so kind to answer.
VS2018
It's been working ok...now real issue..i suppose the usual issues when editing a few clips the clips stutter a little making it a little tricky at times to know how finished piece will look once I input a few transitions. geforce970, ram 15 btw
However - as NOTHING is simple with THIS piece of software. I have been trying to edit - same old stuff like before - but NOTICED that finding PC chugging along..in the past 'out of RAM' Nonsense like this...asking it to literally edit a 2 minute clip!
I notice now that putting clips onto the videoline to piece together - every clip stutters...as you can imagine..it's just about...workable..but really unacceptable...and we're talking just a few clips.
WHATS CHANGED?
I DID the trial download of 2019..and happy to purchase...if you think would help? Have I deleted something in 2018 - one of the drivers? or something? 2018 works/renders ok but its just those playback clips..and YES! I know about Smartrender...IT DOES NOTHING! NEVER DID!!..it's ticked...but makes not difference were it not.
SO - any takers?

Hi
What you describe regarding the slow stuttering playback seems to be a Smart Proxy issue, not to be confused with Smart Render
If you right click your clip, shift and click multiple clips will select all, then right click for "create proxy files" will render and create a file to assist playback.
The process does take a while to complete, a cup of coffee, G & T or Xmas drink would pass the time.
Does that improve playback?

Re: Usual issues with VS...hey ho...
I tried this...when you say..right click on a clip and shift and click click click…
I have my videos in a folder on VS, I have already brought them down into timeline and have already cut out the clips I was to use. So, in my timeline is about 9minutes of footage I want to use/edit together...when I go to try to place any transition in / or just look back at the clips in timeline - they work..but are 'juddery' which I assume it means 'frames missing' - I know once rendered will be fine..but to edit - knit together juddery frames is ..well..guesswork really.
Im not sure what you mean re right click on...what clip...the ones in the timeline? press shift doesn't do anything. I can rightclick on the videofiles ..right click - dropdown list 'render' appears...but all I can do with 'shift' is it selects all the clips...render all etc and ..well..nothing really happens...

For clips in the library or on the timeline
clicking any clip to select, right click selection for create smart proxy file.
For multiple clips, click first clip then "shift click" last clip will select all clips, right click selection for create smart proxy files

Hi
Using Smart Proxy has been reported in the past to affect the render quality, I had thought Corel had fixed that.
Just to be on the save side you can complete the editing then delete / remove all Smart Proxy files before rendering the project
Go to Settings – Smart Proxy – Smart Proxy Manager where you can select and remove proxy files.

Re: Usual issues with VS...hey ho...
btw, I did the thing of ' right clicking on all files...proxy files...
ALL IT did was to mess up all the edits I'd done!!! so I spent ages clipping clips onto timeline....tried that proxy thang... went back into it...and low behold all the clips were all over the shop! magically edited ..as though never been cut in the first place...a total disaster and mess!

Re: Usual issues with VS...hey ho...
That's the thing, though. You should make the proxy files before you do any editing. Anyway, that's how I do it...
