Noob vector object problem

Hello,

This is probably some very simple detail I am overlooking, but I have been working on an image with a lot of text vector objects.
Usually this goes very smooth, but I just suddenly stopped being able to copy and paste vector objects (CTRL+C / CTRL+G shortcut operation). The option to paste as Vector object also no longer appears available in the Edit menu, it is as the layer itself is blocked against this operation.
If I create a new vector layer though, I can still create new text vectors, and then move them to the initial layer.

Can anybody tell me if I can, somehow, get back to copying objects in the original vector layer as normal?
