How to create a straight line using Clone tool

Post by Karen B »

I am trying to clone a glitter pattern from a separate file and draw a straight line with that pattern in my target image/file
Steps so far:
Right click on pattern
Switch to target file
I can draw freehand but if I try to draw a straight line by pressing shift while moving the cursor, I lose the pattern I selected from the pattern/glitter file.

What do I need to do to clone a straight line?

Shift does not work with the clone tool as far as I have seen. However you might try using the glitter pattern as a pattern and using the ordinary paint brush.
When you double click the the Top properties box Foreground and Stroke Properties box, you can use any open image as a pattern while it remains open.. You can even crop part of an image and use that as a pattern.
Then you can use the shift key with the paintbrush to draw that pattern .

You could also take part of that pattern and change it to a picture tube and again the paint brush will work with the Shift key in drawing .

Thank you so much.
I am really new to PSP so had to figure out where I needed to click. Found it on the top box (Foreground) of the Materials Palette and selected Pattern and there it was. Worked like a charm.
You are my hero of the day.

Glad that one worked for you. There is so much to learn in PSP but don't let it get you down. Learn what you need and as you get more proficient start experimenting and learning more about eachh tool and what they do and their limits.
