Hi there.
I'm a (very) long-standing user. From the early JASC days, in fact!
I tend to upgrade every year - and up to 2020 that hasn't been any different.
However.. over the past couple of upgrades, I have noticed I've had issues *losing* the following custom settings:
1. Palettes (a REAL pain, as I have several clients - each with their own colour schemes (and I had them all named under my usual 3-character client code (e.g. ACME Inc. might have a palette called "ACI" or similar - across my systems (accounts, etc. - including a palette on PSP).
Good idea? Yep! - until you successfully "upgrade" to 2020 (from 2019) - only to then *lose* all trace of those palettes (even though they still seem to be there, somewhere..).
Has anyone else encountered this kind of issue?
My latest one (even more annoying) is that the Workspace file seems to no longer load *automatically*. I fire up PSP - and none of my customer key commands work.
They DO, however when I load in my custom Workspace (but previously I didn't have to do this - it loaded automatically....).
Not the end of the world.. but a pain. What am I doing wrong, if anything..?
John

Have you pointed to the location where you saved the custom palettes in 'file locations' and they still are not showing?

As far as I can tell, yes - I tried that early on - and was then surprised to see them not there
I still had 2019 installed at the time (as I was keen to avoid the broken ".pspimage" image thumbnails bug / farce I had to battle with when previously upgrading! Could that be anything to do with it?
Thanks for the advice! John.

Many of us have at least several versions of PSP installed. They do not affect each other in any way and play nicely together. It also ensures that if you install a new version and have issues with it then you always have a previous version to fall back on.

Same here - which is fine (although I've since safely removed 2019 - as 2020 has otherwise been working fine, very happy with it).
The only issues outstanding are:
1. Figuring out how/why my palettes didn't come across (not that they "move" - but I mean they wouldn't load, even though I specified where they were (prior to removing 2019 of course - I gave up in the end and recreated them...)
2. Why my custom workspace *does* work - but fails to auto-load (so I have to call upon it [load it] every time..!
2020 is otherwise fine - but these niggles are precisely that.. niggles.

Re: Fed up of losing custom Palettes, etc. when upgrading!
Someone else has reported that with 2020 their customized workspace sometimes loads and sometimes doesn't. I am trialling it and it seems to me that sometimes the customizations on the menu bar will load but the ones on the toolbar revert to the original default, losing customizations. AND vice versa sometimes! And this behaviour seems to occur even when I reload my full customizations which include both the menu and toolbar customizations. Will be experimenting more.mounsey wrote:Same here - which is fine (although I've since safely removed 2019 - as 2020 has otherwise been working fine, very happy with it).

Also, (and I posted this in another thread and waiting for a response from others), I bound a script to an icon and dragged it to the menu bar, but it only shows as text and the icon doesn't show. As well, I am unable to use the Button Appearance option to make it show either just the icon or both icon and text. It only allows text only for that button. Have you tried that yet?

Hi Joe.
Thanks for the info. No, not needed to try that - but I can do if you like? (re: button text only etc.)

I would appreciate if you were to try it. My original post with more specific details of how I tried to get both icon and text to appear and what I saw happening is here:mounsey wrote:Hi Joe.

Re: Fed up of losing custom Palettes, etc. when upgrading!
Back when I had money to spend on new versions of PSP, I used to write down or put in a text file the various buttons I had on my main horizontal toolbar. I would then re-create the toolbar. Oh, I tried the various tricks, but nothing worked. Only hand-writing or saving to a textfile or spreadsheet outside of PSP worked for me. There was no way to save my customized toolbar and avail myself of the new features (and PSP 2018 had large icons). Let's hear it for pen and paper.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.
