I downloaded Video Studio Trial but I am not satisfied with video quality if video resolution is 1920x1080 or 1280x720.
For example if I play video SP-V02.mp4 (1920x1080) that comes with Video Studio quality is not good.
But if I play video SP-V04.wmv (720x480) it is ok.
I guess problem is connected with resolution but maybe also with format.
I tried same on two different computers so I guess it is not connected with some particular computer. One of them has 16GB RAM and CPU i7 with 8 cores.
And also everything is ok and run smoothly if I start video directly in Windows explorer (so Video Studio is not involved).
But in Video Studio is enough to just click on video and play, no need to put it on tracks of anything.
I exported that video to size 720x480 and you can see better here how it looks.

Any idea, where is the problem?
Or is it intentionally so because it is trial version?

Re: Video Studio Trial - Problem with video quality
As I wrote I have a problem also if I just click on VS test video and click play (without putting it on track) - I press printscreen during playing to catch the "bad" screen:

Just this is enough to repeat the problem. I don't need to export the video.
I didn't change any default settings after installation.
Later I play a bit with Settings | Preferences | Performance and turned off both "Enable hardware ... acceleration" but I didn't notice any change.
Can you please tell me which settings can help me about this?
And as I wrote I repeated totally same on two different computers. So I was wondering if this is normal for trial - like trial doesn't allow to work with videos in higher quality? I am just afraid that if I buy an ultimate version I will have the same problem. That's why I like to clarify about this.
If it is important, my version is: Corel VideoStudio 22.3.0.439 (64-bit trial)
And again if I start same video from windows explorer (without using VS) everything is ok. So I guess computer capabilities are not a problem just to play this video. And I am not doing anything advanced in VS, I have a problem just to play video without even put it on the tracks.

Re: Video Studio Trial - Problem with video quality
Hi bojan
Although the trial is limited in its functions I do not believe that affects the quality of playback
I did run the trial earlier in the year and had no problems, certainly something wrong here.
What happens if you play the WMV samples?
As you have the same issue on two computers you would not expect those to be at fault, stranger things have happened.
Can you try enabling Smart Proxy – go to Settings Smart Proxy Manager – Enable Smart Proxy
Now right click the sample clip and choose Create proxy Files, when complete you should see a small icon appear on the clip
Now drag the clip to the timeline and play from there, in both Clip and Project playback.
As your image, have you rearranged the UI layout?
It is possible that it is just the trial but as I said I did run that with no problems without problems, as such if you did purchase the full version I cannot be certain that things will improve. However you do have a 30 day period in which to apply for a refund should things not improve.
I think you should contact Corel Support for their thoughts on this problem, mind you they will probably suggest you buy

Re: Video Studio Trial - Problem with video quality
Hi, thanks for advices
I downloaded one wmv (1920x1080) file from Internet.
Quality is much better than with mp4 but anyway not so good (there are little rectangles when moving) as if I run it directly from windows explorer (no rectangles):

I tried Smart Proxy, hope in the right way, I got small icon on it. I drag the clip to the timeline and play it from there. It was same "bad" as before in both ways (Clip and Project).

I didn't rearranged the UI layout. It was so by default. Maybe VS changed something in newer versions? Except I am using here monitor oriented as portrait, so maybe something looks more narrow. But on other computer it was normal laptop. Maybe I should try also 3rd option to really confirm same behavior everywhere.
I contact Corel Support 3 days ago and also sent them test video file with bad quality but still no answer.
That's why I came here.
I will do some tests with different type of video files just to see if there is any logic. As I know I have also problems with AVI 1920x1080 and 1280x720.

Re: Video Studio Trial - Problem with video quality
Hi
Ignore the comments regarding the layout, it was the way I looked at the first image and the crop missing the timeline that looked odd.
Yes you did enable Smart Proxy ok, that should improve Project Playback
Unfortunately, from my end it does look like a PC problem, probably check the graphics drivers to make sure they are upto date.
You could try installing K-Lite a free codec pack, Corel do advise that when having issues with HD editing, personally I don’t think it will make any difference. So that takes us back to your pc
And yes I am aware that you are having same issues with two pc’s
Ok
Clutching at straws……….
From Preferences (F6) make sure that Show Messages is ticked
Then start a new project to refresh and clear the timelines
Drag the sample SP_V02.mp4 to the top timeline
You should/may get a message to match the project properties, yes to that.
Although I now see your project properties are using HD at 1920 x 1080, so don’t think this will improve things, Show Messages is problem already selected.
It does look as though all is set to play the video clips correctly.
And that takes me back to the graphics card drivers.

Re: Video Studio Trial - Problem with video quality
Yes, I suspected too graphical card or drivers.
One of two computers that I tested is quite new and not cheap Asus laptop but the other is older (5 years) desktop PC. So with quite different backgrounds and capabilities but behavior very similar.
Both play video without problems in Windows Explorer and both have exactly the same problem in VS.
That's a bit strange to me
And I forgot to admit that yesterday I downloaded for test also Pinnacle Studio and it plays video also without problems (I didn't check other things).
As I said I will try same also on 3rd computer to see if I am really so unlucky with my graphical cards
If also the 3rd computer will have the same problems, then it would be more logical to me that "problem" is in the trial VS cause only this part will be common to all three systems - different HW (graphical cards, cpu, disks/ssd ...), also different windows but same trial version. And all play same videos without a problem outside VS.
Yes, I got message when I drag video to timeline and I clicked "yes". I think I try also "no" but I didn't notice any difference.
I would really like to hear official answer from Corel.
But as you suggest maybe I should go further with buy and see how it will be with official (no trial) version.

Re: Video Studio Trial - Problem with video quality
Hi
Don’t have any other suggestions other to purchase the program
and if that does not work then you have the option to request a refund.
