I have two images; one is the source of the smart clone data and one that is the target for this data. I have selected an area on the target image, and the clone data is pasted into this area (it stays within the dotted selection line, very desirable.) If I go to the target image and select from the menu: Selection + Modify + Expand... I can expand the selection as I wish. But now the clone data will not paste into the expanded selection area. Bummer.
I just submitted a ticket for this.

I have resolved this problem and will now share the "solution" with you. I am a software pro (not an artist or photo pro), I used to test software for a living, and then I retired. Nothing surprises me, and I understand how what happened did happen.
I sent the problem as described above as a ticket to their support. The response I received was as follows:
Hello Bill,
Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support. My name is Vinolin and I have been assigned to your ticket.
In order to get through with this you need restore your PaintShop Pro 2020 to its default settings.
To restore PaintShop Pro 2020 you need to "press and hold" the Shift key in your computer while double click on the PaintShop Pro 2020 icon in your desktop, Then you will see a dialogue box as displayed below -> click OK to restore the default settings.
This fixed my problem, and I replied as follows:
That worked but I lost hours of customizing. How can I avoid this problem? Do you know what broke smart clone?
I then promptly received the following:
Hello Bill,
That is because of sometimes the default settings of the application will change automatically and it crashes the tools, in that case we have to reset the default settings to fix the issue.
Should you need anything else in the interim, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you,
Vinolin

If you have customized the workspace -- as you say you have -- you can save the workspace(s) before you go into a default reset. Then after the reset, you can restore the customizations.

Re: Smart Clone being annoying...
I had noticed that and will do so. I hope the developers fix this so it is not a problem. It can be very difficult to test software like PSP that has so many different paths through the code.
