Drag-Open Dialogue in New Workspace

Post by Zeke9 »

Greetings, PSP'ers!

Longtime PSP user here (dating back to JASC PSP6), just upgrading to 2020 Ultimate after my tried-and-true v9 finally quit working following a graphics card update it just couldn't handle. First off, I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to the various topics on this board, because you've given me a running start at getting 2020Ult up and running, with minimal hassle. I doubt I'm the only lurker here enjoying those benefits, so your efforts are much appreciated! :D

My question is just a small point of irritation I have with the new workspace: Try as I might, through all the customization options, and lots of searching through these threads, I can't find a way to make the little nanny-ish blurb that plops into the middle of the edit view on start up GO AWAY. I realize there are always some new folks who might need some gentle prompting on how to "drag and drop a file" or open one, but I'm not one of them. To me, this is like finding someone else's clutter left on my desk when I walk into the office.

I noticed that it seemed to go away after I'd been working on things for a while, so maybe there's a time component I could adjust to "zero" somewhere? In any case, I'm not beyond program file or registry hacks if that's what it takes. If anyone has figured out how to make this silly thing go away, and can point me in the right direction to do so, you're already my newest hero.

Many thanks to all!

It's always there. I don't even notice it anymore. It appears to disappear when you open an image but as soon as you close the image you will see it again.

Hm. That's unfortunate. Not to mention, utterly unnecessary at this point. One wonders what must have been discussed at the meeting where someone said, "Hey, we should write in a permanent reminder about the most common and basic function of a computer program. The users will really appreciate that." :?

In doing some more work with it, I notice that another variable in getting it to disappear seems to be the number of files opened, plus a bit of time. Once I open about 7 or so files over the course of ~30 seconds, it stays gone the rest of the time the program is open. Obviously, there are variables governing its appearance somewhere which, once satisfied, leave it off.

The hunt continues...

To be honest I found this to be a minor problem.
I am currently fighting with keeping my customization, which often revert to default.
Also trying to control plugins, which also is troublesome.
Expect to post my solution to this soon - just await if something screw up my ideas :x

You're right! My workspace loads the toolbars correctly, but my choices and arrangement of the materials palette are being completely ignored! It seemed to work for a while, but now the program is just doing what it pleases. :?

I'll be curious to see what you find out. Thanks!

In PSP 2018, my customizations sometimes revert to Default. To work around this, I save my workspace as a named & numbered Workspace with a button o the toolbar for reloading workspaces. Although I don't see the latter if the workspace reverts all the way to Default, saving my customizations as named Workspaces (so I can reload it) saves a lot of . . . work.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Yes indeed. And to be sure, I'm a backup fiend, workspaces included.
