Sad times for Corel VS19
Times must be getting bad for Corel VS:
Like Lata has, I reverted back to using VS18 Ultimate due to the very high incidence of crashes and other strange happenings
This morning I commenced opening VS18U and up pops a message from Corel - "Upgrade to the latest VS19U for AU$24"
It is so cheap I almost went and purchased the dammed thing, (like hell) - NO - not worth the money at any price till they fix it
Pity they are not offering an extended money back guarantee on the performance of VS19, I would happily take my money back - it is "un-usable" in current form
And my recommendation to anyone contemplating purchase is that they do not - until Corel bring out a full revision that fixes all the issues
Same goes if they ignore current problems and try to market VS20 without redress to the current problems - don't buy it!
No product that works so badly deserves continued financial support and any company that does this sort of thing deserves only our contempt
I for one will not purchase another Corel product until they fix that which is already out there
If that means exploring the market for another video editing programme then so be it

Hi
I am getting a tempting offer today also currently running X10 and it's offering an upgrade to VS 2019 for £16.99 which is cheap.
Not worth it then?

If you are happy with the performance of VSX10 then stay with it, we can only hope that VS 2020 will be a considerable improvement on VS2019

Hi
Please read this post by MindFlareRetro, Corel Support have provided a hot fix that appears to allow problem VSP’s to open
Also indicates that it may fix some crash issues.
I did run 2019 creating 4 slides shows with no problems. ( Oh before applying this new fix)
Started with Fast Flick and completed using 2019, added titles, audio, shuffled clips about, rendered to Mov, mts, MP4 Mpeg2 to burn a DVD
As i say no problems
My projects containing MTS video files were not as successful.

Re: Sad times for Corel VS19
Many thanks, it does crash at times, but I have just made the auto save sooner so I don't lose out.RobertOZ wrote:If you are happy with the performance of VSX10 then stay with it, we can only hope that VS 2020 will be a considerable improvement on VS2019
I also consider how much more can be squeezed out of my computer, but the £16.99 did make me think, glad I checked first.
Thanks

How do we get the hot fix? Request from support?
I have yet to create one successful video with this software. Crashes all the time. Support has not been able to resolve anything. Sure wish I had tested sooner after purchase. I would have requested a refund and gone elsewhere. Such a disappointing piece of software.

Re: Sad times for Corel VS19
This may be the start of the solution - I hope it is though the patch sounds somewhat underwhelming?
I shall await the feedback from those who install it as to how successful it is fixing the problems - good luck!
I just don't have the patience to re-boot a project at regular intervals, nor deal with the now quirky transitions that used to work just fine
There have been various other strange happenings that I have dis-regarded since they were one offs or rare
And my video Camera output files are .MTS/50fps which seems to provoke instability if there is going to be any (according to reports on this forum)
Meanwhile my decision to revert back and use VS18 has been a good one, with no crashes or strange goings on occurring thus far

Re: Sad times for Corel VS19
I have switched back to 2018. I talked to support, as I was working with Canon MTS files and they told me to re-name each file to .MP4 and I told them to shove it, that I should not have to do that.

Re: Sad times for Corel VS19
That is totally inappropriate advice I cannot believe that anyone working with video would say that, you will of course get a File Format Mismatch.Mark Swanson wrote:I have switched back to 2018. Besides the silent crashes are not just MTS files, I can test using the library MP4 sample and cause a crash by using the scissors to cut the clip and trimming the ends, followed by Undo a couple of times crashes the program.
The only reason why MTS has been mentioned is that it is probably the most popular format and widely used. Its is not the format or my computer it is the stability of CVS 2019

Re: Sad times for Corel VS19
Just to make things clear, this is a copy of the email I got from Support telling me what they suggested I do to "see if it's any better".

I have been using Videostudio for many years, always using my Canon cameras with good results. Now all of a sudden you are telling me that i must go through the hassle if renaming ever single file before I even import it into the program!?! That is totally stupid and a waste of time. I would rather simply use an older version as I have done before. Why should my workflow be messed up because if some bad programming of yours? I would rather change my software than have to rename every file.
I'll wait for you to fix or update your software, and I'll tell everyone in the online Forum to do the same.

Hello Mark,
Thank you for your response.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
In this case, I would suggest you to rename the file extension from MTS to MP4 and then import to Videostudio.
To rename the file extension, kindly follow the below steps in your computer.
Kindly go to the Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization-> File Explore options-> View.
Make sure that the checkbox for "File extensions for known file types" is unchecked.
Then go to the actual location of your Video file and rename the file extension from .MTS to .MP4. Then import the video to Videostudio and check if that helps you
Regards,
Vommina
