What makes this 50 x 50 sized png being 1,46mb?

Post by deepndark »

Hello!

I attached a .png file that is only 50 x 50 sized pic but still is 1,46mb in size.
I would like to know that what makes it so big and also, is it possible to retain it's quality but having it to be converted to a smaller size?

Thanks!

I get different results depending on how I get the image into a folder
1. Right click the image > Save As > PNG to desktop folder -> 1499KB

2. Right Click > Copy > in PSP Right Click > Paste as New Image then Save As PNG -> 2KB (1.87 KB, 1918 bytes , 4KB on disk using Properties)

3. Drag image from 1 into PSP Save As > PNG -> 5KB (4.45 KN, 4567 bytes, 8 KB on disc using Properties)

All three images appear the same quality at scaling 600%

I would like to take a wild guess. You worked on this and saved it as a PSPImage file before saving a copy as a PNG?

The reason it's so large is because of the history data that PSP saved with it. If you go to Export -> PNG Optimizer it'll strip that extra data right out of the file.

I used the method 2 and it worked. Big thanks to you sir!

Anyway, do you think it's normal that my png was that huge in the size? A bug?

Ah... Ok. good to know. Not sure about what I have might been done in this case, but the next time I know how to manage, thank you!
