I'll take issue with your post.tletter wrote: Although you may have issues with Windows 7 as extended support is ending on January 14, 2020![]()
Ending extended support means nothing to the functionality of Windows 7 and associated installed software. If it works now, with no further changes (ie updates) to Windows or the installed programs, all will continue to work properly for years to come. However, I advise that system not have access to the Internet.

If you advocate surfing the Internet w/o security patches then by all means take issue. However, most informed users feel that having updated OS and application security patches are important on the Internet. Of course on an isolated system, you can run any unsupported software that you want.gewb wrote:I'll take issue with your post.

Re: VS19 Freezes & Crashes when Loading a Project File
Depends on what you mean by adequate.
Most people never use MS support for the OS. Issues get reported in the various windows forums and if they are bad enuff, MS fixes them. But most OS support is for businesses who buy it in bulk, as it were. And for those who pay, win 7 support goes beyond next Jan: MS has learned the hard way just how reluctant businesses esp big ones are to change their desktop environments, and what's involved in doing that with all the various apps they run, so their attitude for business essentially is upgrade, but if want support beyond the Jan 20 date, keep paying for it and probably at a premium.
For the humble home user, if you've patched windows 7 per the monthly releases, then after January there will be no further monthly patches - unless a disaster strikes, MS is involved and win 7 is affected. Then MS may release a fix for win 7.
The security suites that now run on win 7 will continue to do so, tho their relevant updates may be slower than they have been.
So continuing to use windows 7 after Jan2020, even for a long time, is not a large risk. And recall that earlier this year there were more XP3 versions in use worldwide than windows 8, so this philosophy has a track record for a reliable OS.

Re: VS19 Freezes & Crashes when Loading a Project File
This is not the case as since at least Windows 7, Windows Update was set to automatically download and install updates by default. Windows Update is how "MS support for the OS" and other MS applications is delivered to most non-corporate users whether they know it or not. To control the delivery of MS Support, large organizations may point their users' Windows Update service to a corporate update server or alternatively they may deliver update packages directly to their users.Davidk wrote:Most people never use MS support for the OS. MS states that "After January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates and support for PCs with Windows 7. If you continue to use Windows 7 after support has ended, your PC will still work, but it may become more vulnerable to security risks." Of course until Jan 2023, organizations can purchase Extended Security Updates licenses. However, there is no guarantee that a security update will be made available to non-ESU licensed users.Davidk wrote:For the humble home user, if you've patched windows 7 per the monthly releases, then after January there will be no further monthly patches - unless a disaster strikes, MS is involved and win 7 is affected. These "security suites" aren't a substitute for running a properly patched OS on the Internet. Defence in depth is the generally accepted approach to security.Davidk wrote:The security suites that now run on win 7 will continue to do so, tho their relevant updates may be slower than they have been.
Unclear how you determined the risk level but it depends on your risk tolerance to becoming a victim of an OS exploit. Although it could be argued that if you're using VS 2019 then you're already used to dealing with malwareDavidk wrote:So continuing to use windows 7 after Jan2020, even for a long time, is not a large risk.
In any event, this Windows 7 discussion is remote from the topic of "VS19 Freezes & Crashes when Loading a Project File".

I'm sorry guys, who the hell cares, Win 7 will either continue for many years, or disappear in a puff of smoke (unlikely of course)
What would you have on your computer that could be compromised, I have Avast Premium Security, which takes care of all my security needs, it blocks just about everthing

Obviously you don't but then again no one is forcing you to read this thread and similarly you shouldn't try to shutdown a thread that you don't find of concern/interest.RobertOZ wrote:I'm sorry guys, who the hell cares
No one suggested that Windows 7 will stop working. That wasn't the discussion.RobertOZ wrote:Win 7 will either continue for many years, or disappear in a puff of smoke
For example, some of us use the Internet for online banking and other financial activity but it sounds like you aren't there yet.RobertOZ wrote:What would you have on your computer that could be compromised
I sincerely hope that no one believes this magic bullet theory of computer security. Would that security was so simple. However, Avast like any security product has Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE). Perhaps you should read up on the multiple CVEs associated with Avast (https://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerabilit ... Avast.html).RobertOZ wrote:I have Avast Premium Security, which takes care of all my security needs, it blocks just about everthing
I do hope that you're not further upset by this posting.

Re: VS19 Freezes & Crashes when Loading a Project File
The issue with W7 is not security at all, it's the implementation of new code that is relevant in W10 only, like DirectX 12. Software companies adjust to W10 relevant features and will drop W7 stuff.

An opinion that is not widely held about Windows 7 computers connected to the Internet. However, it's your system to do with as you please.asik1 wrote:The issue with W7 is not security at all

Re: VS19 Freezes & Crashes when Loading a Project File
tletter, nothing you could say would upset me, I feel sorry for you that you believe that your computer is the target for every hacker worldwide, you must have some super secret data that you need to protect, what government agencies or other agencies do you believe would be remotely interested in anything you have.
I should mention that your paranoia over security has nothing to do with the original post, not trying to shut down the original post, it was you that hijacked this post, if it wasn't, you certainly made it yours.
I ran with Win XP for many years after support stopped and you may be surprised to know that I never suffered any security issues and I believe the same will apply to Win7, I certainly do internet banking, maybe banks in Australia have better security protocols than in Canada.
Like asik1 and 100s of millions of users of Win7 worldwide, I will continue to happily use until it falls over

I read this thread to get a better understanding of the patch being offered to fix certain issues in VS19
However, I got a bloody good "belly" laugh just reading the off subject rantings, of which I have no opinion one way or the other

Your right Skipper, a good belly laugh is all it it worth, it's academic, nothing anyone can say or do can change the fact that 100s of millions of Win7 users will continue to do so, irrespective of whatever perceived vulnerabilities, Win 7 without support, may encounter and why, because it is probably one of the most stable Operating Systems Microsoft ever released.

Re: VS19 Freezes & Crashes when Loading a Project File
I ran into the same problem today after audio mixing and adding filters to a project which I had been working on for weeks. I nearly lost all hope until I came across this post! VS19 still crashes whenever I try to render this particular project, but at least I can open the project now and hopefully figure out which edits are causing it. A MILLION thanks for sharing the DLL file and instructions!
