Photo dropping error
Hello.
Just want to see any of you ever encounter this pop up error msg when dropping a valid photo into VS library? I edited the photo in PSP and everything looks normal. But when I tried to drop the photo into the VS library or timeline, an error msg pop as follows: Do you know what can cause an good photo in PSP but not in VS ? Would it has to do with the project properties ? The project properties are and the photo info Even though the photo has a different resolution than the project properties, it the past it has no problem adjusting to the project properties. Thanks for any idea how to solve this problem.
One more note, not all the photo with the same high resolution/size are rejected by the VS, some of them did and some of them don't.

Re: Photo dropping error
Hi
You do not provide any details of the image file, is it a .pspimage, Jpeg, tiff ?????
If you can upload the suspect image to a sharing site we could try importing to our programs
If that works then it would suggest the program is at fault, if we have the same issues then maybe it’s the image at fault.
I doubt the project properties have any bearing on this especially when inserting to the library where the project properties have no effect.

In that thread you link to, nobody else was able to reproduce your error..tletter wrote:I've seen this error message many times - have a look at viewtopic.php?f=1&t=63610okyou wrote:Just want to see any of you ever encounter this pop up error msg when dropping a valid photo into VS library?

I just tried in VS2018 and VS2019 and cannot generate an error.

Re: Photo dropping error
okyou,
do you get the error message if you drop the unedited image on the timeline?
Some photo editing programs modify the EXIF metadata of photos and VS sometimes does not recognize these changes and hangs.

Re: Photo dropping error
That's a strange remark to make tletter, you and canuck may not have a problem, I also do not have a problem, but okyou obviously does, so is it his program or the media he is trying to import which is causing his issue

Re: Photo dropping error
I also have this problem, 2018 and 2019. But not every time - say 40-50% of move track and slide events. How it happens:
- is usually when you have added images to the end of the project/timeline, and now want to move them to another track and change their time position by dragging along the track.
- if you move an image to the new track and then immediately slide it along in time eg, down to overlay1 and along to an earlier time all in one mouse movement - error message. Repeat action immediately, pause between track move and slide, or even release mouse button them re-click: no problem, job done.
That pause (1-2 sec) between track to track moves and then the drag to an earlier time in that track is significant - like the VS code is catching up with a change in the timeline: slide immediately after the move, and something clashes.
Happens so often that I have gotten used to it. Like other small intermittent glitches in VS, hoping Corel will fix them id like expecting to win the lottery

David,
okyou describes a different problem. He gets the error message just by dropping the image on the timeline.

Re: Photo dropping error
I have the same problem as Okyou on occasions in 2018 when dropping an image into the library or timeline, and find I need to insert the image into the library with the library file manager from where the image is located on the hard drive.

Re: Photo dropping error
Thanks for all discussion. The problem usually after I edited the photo in PSP2018 which is in the same family as VSP. I just tried to drop the photo into the project library to get organized before moving them to timeline. Not all the photos are rejected. Some do and some don't. I observed that those photo taken with AVCHD format and then edited in PSP has a higher rate of being rejected. Also, I observed that photo taken with a Huawei mate 20 has a higher rejected rate then my Sony RX300 or my Osmo Pocket. Any idea ? Thanks

Re: Photo dropping error
Hi Guys
The issue with different users seeing problems has been apparent when using 2018 and 2019
During beta testing some witnessed odd things that others could not replicate, and that makes it quite difficult in identifying the actual problems.
DavidK if you have had this problem and was able to replicate then you should report it to Corel Support, unfortunately they will be one of those who cannot replicate.
I have created several slide shows, a mix of a few video with a lot of jpeg images and I have never had a problem as described in this post.
But that does not mean it does not exist.
Okyou
Canuck mentioned EXIF metadata, I agree that can be a problem.
Saving Jpegs as Progressive rather than Baseline has also caused some problems, it would be normal for the camera image to be Baseline whilst using an image editor could change that to Progressive.
You ask any ideas, yes please upload images so we can use those, ( use One Drive, Google Drive , Drop box etc) at least we can test the actual images.
Saying all that I believe this is just another problem with the stability of the program both 2018 and 2019 and if Corel are not aware they may not fix it.

Using 2019
I am able to create the error
using 10 Jpeg images drag all from timeline to top track set to 9 sec duration
Hit fit to timeline to view all images
Drag any of the first images down to overlay 1, top timeline shuffles left
Drag last image down to overlay causes error
Ok to remove error
Drag down again, this time ok
Start a new project to repeat, above shows error to order
Continue to drag images from top track works ok for a while, then error message returns.

Re: Photo dropping error
I generally have images stored on specific drive locations, and rarely use the library to store my projects' images. To clarify:
Inserting an image (or images) to the timeline is by
- rt click the timeline
- choose insert photo
- use the navigation panel to locate the folder where images required are stored on the PC drives
- select those images required, click OK, images import to timeline in sequence
- mouse select/click an image, drag it down to overlay track, then drag/slide to earlier time as previously stated --> error message. Pause before slide - works OK. Tedious when you have several images to move, not all to the same track or time.
The error process looks to be the same as Trevor is describing. And it's not destructive: click Ok to remove the error box, repeat and if you go slow, it works. Getting the error message is just a bad 'look', poor technique? There are other (reported) intermittent issues with VS that I would be much more concerned about.
As to reporting this sort of intermittent error - I've done that so often, and Corel has never responded to the report, or made contact about it, wanted to remote in and get data etc. Figuring out workarounds for this sort of thing has become almost 2nd nature. If Corel wants a better response they need to create some confidence in the user forum that such reports will be responded to and acted on.

Re: Photo dropping error
Hi
A little bit more investigation to replicate this issue using CVS2019
1 / Add 10 images to the top timeline
2 / drag images one at a time from the top timeline to the overlay track 1
3 / eventually the error will occur
I don’t know if it is related to the top timeline refresh time, as we drag images the clips either show as black or flick “off and on” whilst they refresh the thumbnail.
If we drag quickly the error is more likely to show
Select a clip and wait a little whilst the clips display then drag and the error does not seem to happen.
Once a clip has been moved, moving that clip again does not error.
Its as though the clips are having a cache file created, once done we can move without problems.
With that in mind I inserted the clips to the top track, dragged all to the overlay track, then back again, now I was unable to create the error
Second attempt, inserted all clips to the overlay track, then dragged to top track, again cannot replicate error.
As I can replicated this problem I have reported to Corel

The problem got worst as more media import into the library/timeline so I finally has to reinstall the VS X10 and my problem goes away. What a shame ! Appreciated for all your input and discussion.
