PSP 8 (JASC) Resizing and pixel count (New guy in forum)

Hello All,

First post here, I'm a small scale paper modeler with PSP 8 (pre Corel.) My problem involves resizing larger images to a small size without losing all the detail of the originals. What once had 10k pixels now has 1k pixels and fewer colors, losing the detail. For example:

Note the left image is 100% and the right 800% (and that much smaller. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Did you correct resizing before this behavior happened? I mean, does this happened suddenly?
What is the size of the original image (size in pixels Width x Height)? Which size do you want to obtain?

Can you attach a cropped screenshot of your Resize dialog box about 400- 500 pixels in size so we can see your settings.
