Frequent Crashes 2019

Post by pepegota »

This is a very good program, with a nice work flow, when it works. However, the need to constantly save with 2019 is troublesome. I was changing a transition time and the screen did not work-the 00's froze and the program crashed to the desktop. However, 2018 did not have this problem and seems to be less buggy. Working with PD I see how much nicer VS could be. I hope they get off their buts and correct these problems. Less fancy Dan and more fine tuning is what is sorely needed. I much prefer VS to PD, but there are times that test my limits.
I tried the transition thing on my other computer and it worked without issue. I guess it's time for a reinstall.
The reinstall solved the problem, but crashes are an issue.

So then what does VS2019 give you that is worth the aggravation?

I have been a loyal VS user since Ulead days at the beginning of the century. The reinstall helped 2019, but I wish they would fine tune the program and get rid of those crashes. I completed a project in PD and to compare the work flow to VS is something else. PD tracks are cramped and when you reduce their size the screen because diffiicult to use-dragging, changing sound volume, etc. Their timeline times are not as easy to use as VS. Their collage screen cannot scale a photo as VS does. VS is much easier to move about- better visability and ordering in the Library. There is too much needless junk thrown in. These are not all the PD's shortcomings, but indicative of a few that aggravate me at times. However, their software does not seem to crash as often as VS. I am still routing for VS and will hope for the best. For now, I will continue to ride the VS bronco!

I purchased the product five days ago and experience the most frustrating crashes. The more clips I add to the timeline, the more fragile the program becomes causing it to freeze and then close. I have to manually save after every action. It even crashes during playback.
Rendering to MP4 is also deplorable with a freeze and close down after 60% rendered. Waiting for a technical response. Other video editing programs do not have these problems using the same clips. A lot of money paid for a poor program.

Hi MUSICMAN141002
and welcome to the forums
Sorry to hear you are having these problems unfortunately it is a well documented problem, I am sure Corel are fully aware.
It is about this time in the year that we could expect the next Service Patch hopefully to fix all these issues, we can only hope.
I do not have a solution other than to hit Ctrl+ S to save on a regular basis, you seem to be doing that any way.
And yes my version also crashes so much that I have reverted in using an earlier version.

Welcome to the adventure that is creating videos using VS2018 or VS2019. Personally I rarely use my copy of VS2019 and only infrequently use VS2018 to render due to crashing. And yes I save after every change but even that isn't enough as VS has a hasty habit of occasionally corrupting a VSP whilst saving it!
MUSICMAN141002 wrote:A lot of money paid for a poor program.
To be fair, VS isn't expensive and there are frequent money-saving offers. In any event, Corel offers a 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee (https://www.videostudiopro.com/static/c ... ee/en.html) if you're dissatisfied with your purchase.

I wouldn't hold my breath as Corel didn't fix serious issues with VS 2018 that make it a challenge to use. Corel seems to believe that adding more features will encourage more positive software reviews as these reviews are generally superficial in nature and ignore actual user experience. Perhaps Corel is right in the short term but maybe not so in the longer term.

Thank you to those who have responded so quickly to my post.
I have been experimenting with the program the last few days and can report the following:-
If I import an existing MP4 video onto the timeline of a new project, there is no delay in the preview and rendering is completely successful.
However, my current project involves video clips from my Panasonic HD video camera which produces clips that are M2TS files, and it's these files that VS 2019 doesn't like.
The more files are added to the timeline, the slower the response and the more fragile it becomes with the resultant crashes. And, of course, one can forget rendering as it freezes and shuts down after 60% of a 12-minute project.

Now, I'm no IT expert, but I do expect that a program such as this will have been tested ad nauseum using all the formats of videos that are available today. For some people the price is not a lot, but for me it is and after all the hyperbole that has been used in various publications to promote this software to find that it doesn't work as it should is frustrating and annoying. I have been in constant touch with their technical department who have suggested so many things which I have followed to the letter - and no improvement. However, I will be informing them on Monday (Nov 4th) of my new discovery and will post on here their response.

Thank you for your kind attention.
Regards, Paul

VS Ultimate is regularly offered for <$40 but if that's too pricey then perhaps you should invest your time in learning and using Davinci Resolve 16 as it's free and much more advanced than VS.

This is probably neither realistic nor affordable. Even YouTube with all its resources doesn't support the upload of all formats.

Hi Musicman, do you let VS create Smart Proxy files of ALL the files you add to your timeline before you begin to edit any of the files? I love CVS and have experience crashes as well, but i have noticed its much easier to work with the proxy files when editing.

Hello "newfielander", Yes, VS creates Smart Proxy Files of all the clips I use. This is the latest response I've had from Corel:- "Our higher level technician feels that it is a hardware limitation and
this is an i3 processor and the cache is getting full quick thus causing the crash and you need a complete full clean boot and no other program running while you are on editing." Well I've done all that. They have all the details of my PC and have a suspicion that they're trying to find a way out.

Sorry to sound like I'm repeating myself, but you can check and see if all the files have completely been created into Smart Proxy Files, before you attempt to do any editing.
Good luck.

All files are completely created into Smart Proxy Files
To answer the statement from Corel Technical that it's a hardware problem, I have downloaded the trial version of Cyberlink PowerDirector 18.
This opens in 3 seconds and I imported a folder of 100 clips to the timeline in 6 seconds.
VS 2019 takes 8 seconds to open and using the same folder of 100 clips took 23 seconds to do the same job.
When I moved the scrubber to the right, it froze and crashed!
To me, this proves that there is a technical problem with VS2019 which Corel do not admit to.
