VideoStudio Multi-Cam Editor Problems (HELP!)

Post by Kreadive »

I am currently running VideoStudio 2018 Ultimate. When I play videos in the "edit" screen, they play as expected. When I go into Multi-Cam Editor and try to play or edit videos, one of two things happen. 1) The videos are frozen but the audio is playing or 2) All of the videos appear as a blacked out screen but the audio is playing. I started experiencing this problem yesterday and I have never had this problem before. I spent all day today trying to figure out what is going on (from 10am - 6pm). I have uninstalled and reinstalled VS18 twice now, I have ran the cleanup tool as well. I have checked for graphics/video card updates in which case I am up to date. I have chatted with Corel on their website and they were no help at all. They asked me to send them a screenshot of what is happening. I told them that a still screenshot is not going to show them that the videos are frozen. I have no clue what else to do and I'm hoping that somebody has experienced this issue or knows what the fix is. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

So if you open an old project that successfully used Multi-Camera Editing (MCE), does MCE function as expected?

Have you used MCE before? Is it always like this when using the MCE function of VS? or is it new that is, you used MCE OK in 2018 and now it's doing as you describe.
Ordinarily, you use MCE to create a single video sequence from multiple camera views of the same event. when you are satisfied, click Ok and the object in the library of VS when dragged to the timeline resolves to a vsp of the camera sequence you just created. Playing is done in MCE to see what is available to choose, but any edit (trim leader/end scenes, add voiceover etc should be done in VS main after you are done with MCE.
Playing a video black with audio only suggests a codec issue to me.

Hi Kreadive
And welcome to the forums

Are the video files the same type as you used earlier or are they different?
Can you give the properties of your video files, from the main timelines right click a clip and choose properties, what are they?

Smart Proxy
If Smart Proxy is required then playing one at a time on the main timelines may look ok but playing multiple files within MCE may struggle.

Go to Preferences (F6) – Performance – make sure Enable Smart Proxy is selected

Now access MCE should auto create the proxy files, shows as the orange bar turns green.
Once all green does MCE performance improve,
if NO
Can you provide a screen shot of the MCE panel, you can add that image to your post using the Attachment options at the bottom of the post.

I just tried playing a video that I made with MCE and the audio is there but the video is frozen.

Yes, I have used MCE before, quite a bit actually. This issue just started on Tuesday. I just installed new codecs to no avail.

The video files are the same as I have used in the past. I will include an attachment with a side by side comparison of both video files.

I typically always use Smart Proxy while editing videos.

Okay so something weird just happened lol. I went to use the Live Screen Capture (included with VS) so that I could show exactly what was going on. As soon as I hit record to capture the screen and then play, it worked as expected. Go figure. I'm still not sure if it's fixed or if that was just a temporary fix. I took advantage of it working and finished up a project. I will update you all in a little bit.

Hmmm. Can you check your windows update panel and see what the date of the last update was. And whether it (or maybe last but one?) matches the date your MCE files began playing up?
And I am assuming that files used in MCE are/were the only ones affected - ie, the same effect (black video, normal audio) was not evident when the same clip was played in the normal timeline?
