Why isn't my new PC any faster?

Why isn't my new PC any faster?
I wonder if anyone would care to comment on this? I have been running different versions of Corel Videostudio for over 7 years, and currently have X9 Ultimate which I have been successfully using for a couple of years to process 4k camcorder footage. I recently upgraded my PC. The old PC was built as follows: Intel i5 3570K processor overclocked to 4.2GHz; 8 GB RAM; Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7750 graphics card and a 6Gbps hard drive. The spec I have upgraded to is: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-core CPU running at 4.6 GHz; 64GB RAM; Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660TI graphics card with 6GB on board, and a Seagate Firecuda 510 M2 solid state drive. I would have expected Videostudio to run a lot faster, but I find that rendering takes just as long, even though the processor is running at less than 20% and the GPU at less than 10%. In fact, the only process that seems to run quicker is when Prodad Mercalli scans the clip before stabilising it. I am guessing that my version of Videostudio is too old to make use of the 12 core processor. Are the newer versions better at this, and will it be worth upgrading? Thanks for any assistance.

The simple answer is no,
No quantum leap in newer VS's in that aspect,
it's a <$80 software.
So flashing with top listed hardware do not impress VS

Thanks. I was afraid somebody might say that. It's just, I don't have the time or the inclination to learn how to use different software, although - VS having so many limitations - I suppose I ought to make time!

Re: Why isn't my new PC any faster?
To clarify asiks' answer,
Corel have not invested any effort in multi-threading Video Studio to take advantage of multiple core-cpu's in newer versions since X9, rather they have made VS more complex by adding various functionality that looks attractive, but managing it slows the application down because there is so much more to check. As an example, in X9 I could run 1920x1080 HD clips in the timeline without resorting to proxy, but from X10 onwards on the same PC smart proxy was a must for any reasonable edit performance.
The main contributor to performance is the cpu clock speed, but your new one is basically the same as the old one. For cpu intensive operations, the extra amount of RAM will certainly help, but like all video, it's imagery bound. A solid state drive for C and possible other apps will pretty much reduce disk latency effects and as a result it's faster for intensive work, like rendering.
The newer versions all have outstanding reported bug issues, to the extent that x9 is now frequently cited as the most reliable version. If you don't need all the new features that are in 2019, stick with what works.

As seen in the Task Manager image, when VS2018 is rendering, it's not CPU, memory, or I/O bound. VS2018 doesn't maximize the use of available computing resources so that doubling CPU performance doesn't double VS performance rather you'll just see a fractional increase in performance.chinabus wrote:I would have expected Videostudio to run a lot faster, but I find that rendering takes just as long, even though the processor is running at less than 20% and the GPU at less than 10%.
This filter isn't a Corel product so isn't hobbled by VS's legacy core.chinabus wrote:the only process that seems to run quicker is when Prodad Mercalli

To all who responded, thank you for taking the trouble to comment. I just wish I'd known all this before I splashed out nearly $3,000 on a new PC! I use other applications, which I'm sure will run faster in future, but VS is what I use the most, and speeding up rendering time was the main reason for the purchase - and it still takes 45 minutes to render a 60 minute video in HD!
