Same as First Video Clip - Greyed out. VS2019
Hi.
Trying to join 2 .mov clips created with the Multi Camera screen capture of a program window.
Unable to do this without it wanting to re-render the entire 2 clips into some other format.
'Same as first Video Clip' is greyed out.
Tech support no help so far.
Any help would be appreciated.
Seems like this is about the simplest task you could do with the software.......lol

Re: Same as First Video Clip - Greyed out. VS2019
But it looks like VS can't even do that simplest thing easily...........shame really........
I mean.....all I really want to do is cut, and splice video clips...........and maybe a voice over.......but mainly cut, and splice.......
Doesn't seem to be too much to ask .....lol........I really don't need all the fancy stuff.....
And to cut and splice clips........it shouldn't be necessary to re-render the whole effing thing.....lol
And, fwiw, Cam Studio will capture a screenshot video and use maybe 100K bytes to do it at a halfway decent resolution.
MultiCam Capture, as VS has it.......takes about 1 Gig for the same screenshot video......at 15FPS no less.....lol

Actually it isn't. Sometimes the problem is with the format of the media that you're using.Zardiw wrote:And to cut and splice clips........it shouldn't be necessary to re-render the whole effing thing.....lol

I agree. HOWEVER, the format is from Multi Cam Capture.......which comes with the package.......loltletter wrote:Actually it isn't. One would think the designers would have included the capability to process the output of a sub package that they provide with their main product.
But obviously they didn't........

Hi
What are the properties of your video files
Right click your video file from the library or timeline and choose Properties, what are they?
do this for all types of video involved
MultiCam screen capture uses the resolution of your monitor to record the video as does all screen capture software.
We can set the FPS to other settings than 15fps, i generally use 25 as I am in the uk using Pal , 30fps is also available.
As far as i know i do not have any problems using Same as First Clip.
Same as First Clip is referring to the top timeline, so what do you see as your first clip?

Thank you Trevor!
Right clicking for properties is good info to have.
This clip is from MultiCam Cap using 15FPS. The file size is still huge. I don't need that high quality, but can't find settings that would lower the quality to get a halfway decent file size. Here are properties:
I did a test of Cam Studio Screen Capture also using 15FPS, and the .avi output is a MUCH smaller file size. Maybe I should use Cam Studio input and join those clips using .avi........maybe it will join those w/o rendering the entire project.
Seems like if all the clips have the same format, it would go very quickly to join clips.......but maybe not.
Properties of Cam Studio clip:
Edit:
Joining 2 .avi clips from CamStudio is very fast..........so that's good. But the file size is 10 times what it was......so that's bad.
And the quality is horrendous.
10 times the file size and quality goes into the toilet........lol
And the 'Same as First Video Clip is STILL greyed out.

I think I need something more KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)
Anybody know some software that can cut/splice video clips of the same format?
That will keep the file sizes the same, the quality the same, and run fast?

Re: Same as First Video Clip - Greyed out. VS2019
Keep is Short and Sweet would be a better description rather than Simple
Going back to MultiCam Capture I do not have a problem in recording clips and using Same as First Clip with those files
Multi Cam Capture allows us to choose two formats – from Advanced – Encode either AVC or MJPEG
AVC creates a MP4 video and is much smaller in file size compared to MJPEG
AVC also activates the Show Messages which sets the Project Properties to the video properties
More importantly for you allows for Same as First Clip.
So to keep it short and sweet change your recording settings to use AVC x 30fps

Re: Same as First Video Clip - Greyed out. VS2019
Your comparison of the file created by VS2019 and the one created by CamStudio are meaningless when it comes to comparing file sizes. First of all the VS video is 883 seconds long and the CamStudio video is 10 seconds. Obviously there will be a huge difference in file sizes. Then you also used different capture formats as well as different capture dimensions.Zardiw wrote:I think I need something more KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)

In general comparing videos by file sizes is irrelevant since there too many variables especially when the video formats are different.
In none of your posts you are really explaining what you are doing

How about the VERY FIRST POST:
I don't know how to explain it any CLEARER for you.......lolTrying to join 2 .mov clips created with the Multi Camera screen capture of a program window.
Re: Same as First Video Clip - Greyed out. VS2019
And I am fully aware that different video lengths will result in different file sizes.......lol
HOWEVER, Look at this:
Sizes and Lengths
Clip 1 from MC Capture - .mov Length 14 minutes. Size 2.7Gig
Clip 2 from CamStudio - .avi Length 10 minutes. Size 210K
That's a HUGE difference.......and no way am I gonna upload 2gigs to YouTube when the quality is relatively the same.......
Need to try the MC Capture at a lower setting and see if the file size will be realistic.

Re: Same as First Video Clip - Greyed out. VS2019
And what I just did is to play one of those .mov clips from MC Capture in Media player, and Captured it with Cam Studio!......lol
That took the size from 1Gig to 139K .....No loss in quality......which uploaded to YouTube in not much time at all.....

Re: Same as First Video Clip - Greyed out. VS2019
OK.....Recorded another clip (1 Minute) at AV settings in MC Capture. Size: 22K so that's acceptable.lata wrote:Keep is Short and Sweet would be a better description rather than Simple

Added it to timeline and it asked about the project settings and I said OK.
I cut a little off the end of the clip.
When I tried to Share it I got a frame discrepancy message.
It DID allow me to select Same as First Video Clip.

Re: Same as First Video Clip - Greyed out. VS2019
Hi
Yes we are aware of that error message, unfortunately slipped my mind this time
I had thought that setting the project properties to a standard size would fix that and allow rendering.
I did try but still failed?
Other options
From Mutli Screen Capture set the set the recording area by dragging the freehand selection pointer to draw a box
Now set the size to 1280 x 720, then lock the ratio, 1280 x 720 is a standard video resolution
Position and resize your window below this box
Of course if you have a HD monitor set it to 1920 x 1080, will give better quality
The recording will allow you to Share – Same as first Clip.
