Canopus ADVC110? Anyone use it? Problems with capture

Post by brucefl »

Hello,
I do have a post on the 22nd about my capture problem and have been in contact with tech support. I am wondering if anyone else (still) uses a Canopus ADVC110? I (They are not sure exactly what the problem is, which I had not encountered before. It will capture for a around 30 secs or so stop then after a few seconds crash the program. I have been using it for quite a while and several versions without any trouble. I am curious if anyone has the same or similar device. The last contact with support said "Once again we did some research on it and we found that this is one of those odd cameras that can either be a tape or digital. If you have your videos stored on a memory card, then you need to import via windows or PlayMemories and not via VideoStudio. Once you imported to the the files to the computer, then import in the VideoStudio."

Do not get me wrong I find VS tech service professional and great to work with, not hearing back from my previous post I thought I might ask a different question to try and isolate the problem, or try something new. Already did the uninstall and clean install. Cleaned Cache, temp files, I think that covers it.

Appreciate any suggestions that I could try. The NVIDIA card is up to date as it gets, though there are more updates for other versions? Geoforce GT 640. Also change the driver for the IEEE with no luck.

The only bad questions are the ones not asked :) Thanks Bruce

Hi Bruce
I assume the Canopus ADVC110 is a capture analogue to digital converter type device and not a camera, seems a little strange that Corel Support says it is an “Old camera”

If you had a previous version of video studio that was successful in using the Canopus then why not install that, which version was it?
I know that does not fix the issue with your current VS but at least it gets you working and capturing video.

And yep I missed your last post here

It worked with this version also, last trouble I had they had me uninstall my 2 or 3 previous versions. I assuming that is it until I hear from them. I am thinking of updating to something else, but if that is not the problem I hate to waste the money. It starts to capture then stops about 30-40 seconds. I wonder if it is giving VS to much info too fast. It plays fine till I hit the capture.

It's been reported all over the trouble of DV in win 10,
google on that.
It's not an issue of VS previous versions.

Thanks, that could be why it is taking longer than usual for a response from tech support. I will have to see if I still have the link for the last version lol. The only problem then when they want me to try and fix this one that they will want to uninstall all previous versions :) Right now I am trying to look at some never devices that may work as well. In reading what I have, supposedly USB 3 or 3.1 is as fast as firewire. I just do not want the same headache. thanks

I am when I get a few moments, it is just frustrating this is the 2nd problem I have found with this version of VS and have to go through another program to do what I have paid this program to do :) I have had it since version 3 at least lol I will let you know how I make out, somethings I am recording off tape are several hours. Worst part is my machine is over 4 years old and is faster than some of the newer ones. I always try to get the best of what I can. One reason I have always liked Video studio. Again thanks a lot.

I used to do a lot of DV/AVI work in standard format and HDV in high def. Even when VS was behaving well, I used to use WinDV as my preferred capture program simply because of its willingness to accept sensible names for the captured clips. (Ditto with HDVSplit for HDV.) Yes, it would be nice if VS behaved better, but if your Canopus proves to work well with WinDV, then I wouldn't give VS a second thought for the capture side of things. And really, after all you are only a couple of mouse clicks away from opening the captured clips in VS...

I am trying the WinDV out other than the enormous size of the files because of avi (I think a meg a minute). In the preview window when capturing does it or is there a way to listen as well as watch? I get no sound, and possible just a setting. Thanks again, appreciate the assistance.

Is there sound on the captured clips? (I assume you want to listen while capture is occurring, but it has been so long since I have captured DV/AVI that I can't recall if WinDV allows that.)

Yes there are sounds on the clips. Unless someone else knows? I will look around their page. Thanks
