fade out from photo at video end

Post by Skipper »

How do I make a fade out to black from a photo at the end of my video in VS Ultimate 2019?
I have tried to do something which I always thought I could have done previously in VS but the 2019 program tells me I cant do this?
As a separate issue I note the length of short video clips also creates some issues but this is not the problem I am trying to solve right now
Any help much appreciated :D

Might be a bit simplistic, but cant you just put a black color board after the photo then apply a fade transition between them

I was happy to do just that, but this VS U 2019 will not let me - I forget the exact words but the implication was that the file was too short
Absolute nonsense since I had about 30 seconds of photo (rolling titles over the top) plus perhaps 10 seconds of black colour
I dropped the transition over the joint between the two and was promptly rejected
Is this another glitch in the 2019 program?

You should not have an issue applying the transition, I just made a 2 second photo file with a 2 second black color board and had no problem applying the transition between them, so am I misunderstanding what you are trying to achieve.

Hi
I would check the durations of the clips, easier to do if you switch to Storyboard view as each thumbnail /clip shows it's length
You may find there is a short clip?

1 / Rather than using a black clip simply adding a crossroads transition to the end of the video should fade that out to the background which is black

2 / You may wish to explore the use of Customise Motion, that can also apply a fade by adjusting the opacity

As usual you were right Lata, an artifact somehow attached tot the end of the photo that was being "viewed" as a file too short to work with
It was not noticeable until I zoomed right in to see individual frames (50P)
Cleared away and it all worked as it should - thanks to you both for your help!

I use that fading a lot. Here is my workflow.

> Place last image on the Timeline.
> Set image time to be longer than the desired fade time (just grab back edge and drag-drop so it is 1/2 second longer than the desired fade time).
> Add Black color chip just after last image.
> Lengthen the time of the color chip (just grab back edge and drag-drop so it is 1/2 second longer than the desired fade time).
> Add Crossfade transition between image and color chip.
> Set desired fade time as long as it is a little less than the color chip time.

I also have used it many times before, on VS U 2018 and never had an issue
However, VS U 2019 is somewhat of a different beast on my PC, having numerous bugs which cause It to crash
With this in mind, when I came upon the issue with the particular combination -photo - transition - black card, I did wonder if my experience was replicated elsewhere
I had used transitions elsewhere in the project successfully and wondered if the photo (static) to colour (static) may have been a problem?
This has turned out not to be the case and my problem is now solved in the response from Lata
Thank you for your interest :)
