Color palette from image or document

Post by nanrector »

Hi!
I can't seem to find this option anymore in PSP 2019 Ultimate. How do I make a palette from an image or graphic? Seems like it had options to show various contrasting or complementary colors also.

Thanks!
Nancy

I don't know if PSP has this function. There are some simple apps for Windows that can do it.

Have you looked at: https://color.adobe.com/create
there is a tab "Extract from an Image"

Are you sure it was PaintShop Pro you were doing this with? You said "anymore" suggesting you've done it in the past.

PSP has the ability to decrease the colors in an image to make the image a paletted image. So 256 colors maximum. There are then scripts that can extract the colors into swatches for the Materials Palette. From the materials palette you can choose complementary colors using the various functions in the color picker. But no command to extract swatches directly from the image that I am aware of.

That actually brings up another question. When you say "palette" are you referring to the color swatches in the materials palette? Or are you referring to the color palette of a paletted image? It's fun when they re-use terms like that, isn't it?

It's been a much older version I did this with and I can't remember the specifics. I could be mis-remembering... but I recall that materials palette would have colors from the image and then give me choices of other colors that were complimentary, etc. I know there are outside apps that can do this. Could have swore PSP did it. Well, if it doesn't do it that's the way it is. I'll just use an outside program. Just seems like a function that would be part of any graphic software. I know illustrator does it. But it's a more high tech software I guess. Thanks for the info!
