VS2018 stopped working when trying to open a VSP from 2008

I downloaded your zip file and was able to open it in VS2018 but of course I do not have the linked files to proceed.

So how did you open the the "old" vsp in VS2018 to be able to create a VSP that opens in VS2018?

I downloaded the zip file, de-compressed it to get the vsp, and then opened that from 2018 (specifically, I opened VS, and when open, opened that vsp project). The loading bar appeared and it seemed to be loading, and then 2018 crashed. I got the same results from X9, and 2019, so it's not unique to any specific version of VS. From what I could see (the action happens fast enough to miss details), but it got thru several files and seemed to be trying to load an avi file at the time of crash.

I removed the titles and save again, this time I was able to open in other Video Studio programs.
It appears that the title is causing problems
I then created a new project containing the title only, that also crashed 2019.

Your project only contains a few images, AVI video and audio files at 14min 15seconds duration
If you wish to re-use this project I assume you have these files saved to your PC
Although you may be best to create the project from scratch
The images and video files should be here:-

[G:\Video\Home Movies 2002\uvs080705-004-168.AVI]
Before you go any further I suggest you check to make sure you still have those files.

You do not need the actual files, when we open the project we are asked to relink, cancel that and the clips load to the timeline as B/W
Now if we File Save As it will save that project to the program being used.

How did you go about modifying RichMen's original vsp (which crashes VS2018 when opened) to the vsp that opens in VS2018 (without the links of course)?

Thanks Lata, it worked for me, I can open the VSP file. So it appears that later versions of VS struggle to open a V7 VSP due to the title, bummer.

I'm curious to know how tletter managed to modify the file.

How many project files do you have created with UVS 7
If there are more then you may have the same issue

Its not a one off, I tried to open a few other UVS7 project files using VS2018 and all had the same issue. I've probably got between 50-100 UVS7 project files (rough guess).

Playback in Project does not work with an error regarding registering Direct Show even so was able to remove the title that seems to have fixed things. The installation files included a service pack and a couple of hot fixes.
At the present time I have uninstalled the program

Thanks lata, appreciate the offer but I'll just have to accept the limitation and work around it.

I can only see one title in RickMen's VSP found in 'Anthony 1st BDay.zip', and it doesn't prevent the VSP from opening.

I tried to open a few other UVS7 project files using VS2018 and all had the same issue. I've probably got between 50-100 UVS7 project files (rough guess).

The following image shows the VSP that I uploaded earlier, open in VS 2018 with the title intact (it'll also open in VS2019). The remaining step is to link the missing files which obviously we don't have.

I downloaded the zip file, unzip the VSP file and tried to open the vs2018 VSP version, Corel crashed! ie "Corel has stopped working" message.

If it won't open in your VS2018 then clearly there is some difference between yours and my version of VS2018.

Thanks Tletter, I had assumed that you were the only one to open the OP’s VSP using 2018, for the rest it simply crashed the program whilst trying to launch.
It would show the top timeline clips being added but when it tried the next timeline stalled at 1% then a silent closure.
That happened for me with all Corel VS Versions

Installing the old Ulead versions allowed the program to open allowing me to tweak, trying to fix and removing the title did allow 2018 to open the VSP.
Indecently I had no problems in opening your X11 version.

Unfortunately it’s an anomaly with Video Studio 2018 and 2019 where some users have problems and others do not, that makes it confusing and difficult testing by comparing results.

The next issue and you will have problems whilst others don’t.

As for the older Ulead programs (UVS 7) I am having problems with project playback and a Direct Show Engine register issue, I am not sure it is worth my while in exploring the reasons for that.
