So it's time to send logitech a note isn't it?

I have a Logitech C920 and from what I can make out, the only encoder available is H.264 AVC standard

Hi Asik, yes I've already sent Logitech the question as well a few days ago & so far I I've gotten back are crickets chirping in the dark...
I'm just trying to avoid having to go and drop another $100 for another new camera... And if I do I'm not even sure if a new one would even rectify the situation either...

Does yours power up & open from VS when choosing capture from device? ...or does your shut down VS like I'm experiencing.RobertOZ wrote:I have a Logitech C920 and from what I can make out, the only encoder available is H.264 AVC standard

I no longer have VSX8/9 installed, but With VSX10, VS2018 and VS2019 I can capture using the C920 webcam, VS2018 did have a few initial shutdown issues with capture but corrected itself and captures OK now.

Re: Capture from device crashes both VS X8 & X9 (logitech c9
Well that figures... I actually had a similar issue with rotopen once, same behavior, choose pen & VS just closed like this but I noticed it the day after a windows update & then suddenly, after the next big update (3 months later) it went back to working fine...
Would there be anything that could be looked at from the registry end maybe? I dunno, feels like I'm just grasping at straws now...
And now I also just noticed that no matter what capture option I choose, even the most mundane, capture from removable media, they all close VS.. So I suppose this isn't a camera issue then maybe?

Re: Capture from device crashes both VS X8 & X9 (logitech c9
We are all clutching at straws to work out why you are having issues with not just one computer, but two and with two different versions of VS
What version of Logitech software do you have installed, there appears to be more than one version available, I currently have installed Version 2.51 build 13.51.828 and for me that successfully works OK. but is is quite an old version
There is a later version called Logitech Capture, this may be better suited for Win 10, you could give that a try if you have not already done so

Re: Capture from device crashes both VS X8 & X9 (logitech c9
I thought driver might have been the problem as well but at their site & when I go under support the most current is something called Ghub (?), and I do use a mouse & kbd that binds controls & settings of them all together. When I open that software they are all shown & when opening the camera it comes right up in their preview pane (or, opens anyone else's program except VS)
...It did prompt me to uninstall the older version first, so I uninstalled that & then installed the new one on both machines but, still made no difference. And after with no joy from that I tried some of the older versions as well but no change...
One thing I did notice though in the Ghub program, camera settings, that for some reason it defaulted to PAL rather than NTSC so I ticked it back to NTSC... And after doing that I tried opening VS again and while it still closes VS it takes longer before it closes down... & the light on the cam stays on for about 5 seconds before VS shutdown...
And another odd quirk, there's an anti-flicker setting with an option to use either 50hz or 60hz, by default it is 50hz so I set it to 60hz and doing that it takes VS even longer before it closes down... But even if I try to import from from removable media it still closes VS still, so... I dunno, maybe my current VS is simply corrupted from an update, or something... maybe..
I think this week I'll just uninstall X9 and try a fresh new install to see if it'll help the issue... Not really worried about the old machine as I rarely use it anyway... Though I'm sure I'll have to contact Corel and & have the product key unlocked again, just like I did when I tried taking this machine up from X8 to X9, first three installs of X9 were missing pieces from the ultimate end & other odd issues after installing & eventually threw up the 'product key' & 'please contact Corel' message ...*sigh*
EDIT: To answer what logitech's running what here...
From the camera setting program stand-alone:
USB Vender ID (VID): 0X046D
USB Product ID (PID): 0X085C
USB Revision (BCD): 0X0016
Firmware version: 7.55.1085
Firmware CRC: 0XE67A
EEPROM Version: 0.0
Sensor Type: 4.38
From the Ghub program:
Software Version 1.10.110
And from the cameras driver details:
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 3/18/2019 (and if I try update driver, it says the best & most current driver is being used for this device)
Driver Version: 10.0.18362.1
And oddly, if I move over to the events tab of the driver it does say something interesting...
...and then went to the full version of event viewer, shown as a yellow warning

G Hub is Logitech gaming software, may not be what you really need, try Logitech Capture, you have nothing to lose

Re: Capture from device crashes both VS X8 & X9 (logitech c9
Yes I also have Logitech capture installed as well, that was how I was capturing as a last resort (after VS kept closing at capture) & then found that the MP4 files it spits out, longer than 10-15 seconds long, won't import into VS unless I re-render them in handbrake & then import them into VS...
And I did also uninstall Ghub as well but, had no bearing on VS closing at capture...
Like I said, I'll probably just reinstall VSX9 sometime this week & hopefully that will fix the issue... It's about the only thing I haven't tried and was just hoping to avoid it...

Re: Capture from device crashes both VS X8 & X9 (logitech c9
Well... Was able to reinstall X8 on the laptop & the webcam now works on my retired machine but, since it worked on there I went & reinstalled X9 on my main machine (twice) now and X9 is totally messed up. When I go to even try to open the program, with no camera even present on the system. It tries to open but closes in the same manner the webcam was shutting it down... It loads the splash screen & as soon as it pops into the program it immediately closes it... And when I look at the event viewer, it doesn't even show up in the event list as an event...

Re: Capture from device crashes both VS X8 & X9 (logitech c9
When you installed x9 did you first download the main program again
I would choose a new empty folder for the download files
Only choose to download the main program
Choose download installed versions and download only
Whilst that is downloading uninstall x9 using the Clean UP tool
Delete the 19.0 folder used to reset the program
http://lata.me.uk/corel/reset/reset.htm
As a thought also , do you have the folder VSPtemplates, if yes rename that folder to vsptemplates-old
Users\username\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate
Now install x9 main only
I think with x9 we have the option to install the 32 bit version, whether that would be an improvement I don't know?

Re: Capture from device crashes both VS X8 & X9 (logitech c9
Thanks Lata...
I have the disk set versions for both X8 & X9 Ult... But I imagine at some point I'll probably have to call Corel to have the product key reset for X9 as this will be the 3rd install after it's initial first install...
The only time I've ever had a problem installing was when I went up from X6 to X8, I purchased the download version and for some reason kept doing what this is doing now. Corel wound up refunding the cost of the digital-download version after Corel Support couldn't even get it up & running correctly after multiple remote sessions. After the refund, they suggested purchasing the boxed set of X8 and that worked fine & then later, when I started on this new machine, I simply purchased the boxed set for X9 as well and that also installed without a hitch, until now....
Yes, I will try running the cleanup tool as well this time around... But probably won't be able to do that until next weekend.

Re: Capture from device crashes both VS X8 & X9 (logitech c9
Hi
I have installed Video Studio programs many times certainly more than 3 and have had no issues, that is installing to the same machine.
The EULA does limit installations to one machine unless that machine is faulty then we can install to another, for other Corel products that used to be 3 installations, need to check EULA for that.
Even so I don’t know how they police that although the latest versions are getting better at controlling installs.
Some users installing the boxed version have had better results by copying the disc contents to the hard drive and installing from there.
Even so running the Web Installer (Stub) a 10MB file, should/could also download the installation files.

Re: Capture from device crashes both VS X8 & X9 (logitech c9
Well I guess all I needed to do to fix this fiasco was to go on vacation for 10 days & then turn everything thing back on when I got back to find everything is now working as it should... And Windows update didn't even do an update after being off for 10 days.
Sometimes I really hate computers... LOL
Thanks for all the help guys...
