The problem is, for creative reasons, I need to start about halfway through my video.
I'm making a music video for my students, and I've got a buttload of clips to go through, select, clip, then very carefully place into the timeline so their moves synch with the soundtrack.
But every time I put a new clip into the "Video" timeline, VS moves everything. Ripple Editing is turned off as far as I can tell (everything is greyed) except for the video timeline. How can I turn it off?
I want to place a clip, and have the clip stay where I placed it unless *I* move it.
Can I do this?
Can I stop VS moving my clips when I add/remove clips

Re: Can I stop VS moving my clips when I add/remove clips
Hi Dan
And welcome to the forums
By design the top track always shuffles clips to the left, 2019 has introduced gap editing that does allow us to move clips along the top track, even so initially adding clips will shift left.
We can use the overlay tracks where clips remain in place
I would suggest you ignore the top track and use the overlay tracks
From Preferences ( F6 ) Edit tab – select Use-Fit-to-Screen as default
Dragging clips from the library to the overlay tracks will stay where we drop them and show as full screen
Your clips should be the same ratio as the project, I assume you are using 16:9 video files, otherwise clips may be distorted.
Tip press Ctrl+ S to save the project on a regular basis
