Split sequences

Post by steve76 »

H,
Making a video quite long, sometimes I need to insert some parts ( pictures or Text, etc... ) The point is that, when you have many tracks to manage, this is a nightmare. If I need to insert a simple picture, I " drag and drop" all tracks to the right for instance, in order to create the space... Doing this by hand, I need to do the synchro again.. I spend a lot of time just for that....

- Is there a way to say at one point, I need to insert a time slot of 10min, for instance and automatically, EVERTYHING is shifted to the right and give me a 10 min slot, where I can insert something ?

2) Other possibility: If I work with chapters / projects , my video will be shorter and easier to manipulate. How can I merge 2 projects and get one film ( or one final project ) ?

Thanks and regards,
Steve76

Hi Steve
And welcome to the forums
You need to set Ripple Editing
To the left of the timelines are a series of chain links the top one enables ripple editing
Overlay tracks can be added to the ripple by selecting the links.
If you now add a clip to the top track all clips to the right of that will shift with the top track.
Works reasonably well but does have its idiosyncrasies, you may still have to shuffle the odd clip.

Best to read the user guides regarding Ripple Editing
http://help.corel.com/videostudio/en/of ... 3ww1390040

You mention chapters --- I assume you are burning a disc, Bluray or DVD?

OK
You have several VSP project that you wish to combine into one, a process called Nesting could do that
From the library create a new library page
Import your VSP’s to the library
Start a new project and set the project properties
Drag each VSP to the top timeline, read the tool tip, hold Shift to drop vsp as single clip. ( flatten Video)

Why is it important to drop vsp as single clip in this case, Trevor?

Trevor didn't say it was important to drop the .vsp as a single clip - just that if you do drop a .vsp into the timeline is will automatically be added as a single clip -- that's what happens when you drop a .vsp - it is a way of dropping a complete project into another without having to drop numerous single clips

Just to confirm that if you just drag and drop a VSP to the timelines it will show all clips within the project file, that will allow additional edits to be done to any clip..
If you hold Shift and drop it will add one clip. the VSP.
It’s a matter of personal preference and whether you need to see the contents of the project.
Try both methods to see which works for you

We mentioned that we can import vsp’s to the library, but there are limitations
If you add a project file to the timeline as a single clip, save the project
We cannot add that project file to the library as it is a nested vsp, you will get an error, if that makes sense
