I can reproduce it many times in a row (i.e., it's the same file)

Also the same pspimage-file (saved originally in PSP 2020) crashes 2019 version too with the same error. Crashes after opening the file and clicking image (or even before)

Prior to saving the file originally, did you do some modification on it using a third party plugin? If so, it's possible that the plugin caused some change in the image that caused some image information to be corrupted in the image and PSP to saved the image with that corruption.

No 3rd party plugins used. Some raster and vector layers that's all. 2 days old installation.

Anyway whatever the reason, PSP should not crash.

Sorry, I didn't follow up. But no, it's only one image of mine that I worked quite a lot on. Then suddenly after one save it did not open anymore, crashing the program every time and I had to scrap everything and start from scratch. I also tried with earlier version of PSP, completely different programs (like Irfanview) etc. The image was lost forever.
