sound effect files - what is a good source?

Post by Skipper »

I have been looking to add a short - perhaps 15 second sound clip for background effect. The scene is Northern Australian "billabong" with lily pads and still water so was hoping to find something that might have had frogs croaking, insects buzzing and perhaps the odd wetland bird call. I spent a good deal of time searching without success and wonder "what are the good Go To sites for sound effects that do not cost an arm and a leg?"
My searching turned up a number of "free" sights that on closer inspection seem to have a "hook" or "barb" that I don't want to be part of however a one off modest cost might be acceptable for the right product.
At the same time I note where once sound effects were part of the library of clips offered in VS, these have gone from current versions of VS without even a separate packet they might "sell" to the average user - am I missing something here? Any help appreciated :D

You should have some sound effects at C:\Users\[Your Name]\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\Bonus Content\Audio -- though I don't think this will be overly useful for your current project.

You might also want to look at one of our users who provides some sound effects free of charge though I haven't looked through them to see if any meet your needs. See viewtopic.php?f=62&t=59604

Sony, when it produced Vegas and Movie Studio, used to provide quite useful and extensive sound effects "free" as part of their software bundles, but I don't know what has happened to them or where/how you might obtain them.

SmartSound also produced a number of discs with extensive sound effects on them. I have several of them which are well produced and work with my Sonic Fire Pro 6. But of course SmartSound discs are very expensive.

And now you also have RobertOZ's extensive BBC library which I see he has added while I have been typing this. Thanks Robert!
