Can't open pspimage file after PSP froze

Post by Sherri777 »

Hi there all,
I have been searching online looking for a way to open a large layered pspimage file that stopped opening after the program froze and crashed in the middle of working on it.
The file appears to still exist, is the same size file, and is recognized as a PSP file until I try opening it, at which point I get the dialog box ""Unable to open file. Please verify that the file is valid."
It is valid, I can see it in the preview screen, so apparently it still exists - or a thumbnail of it does, anyway. A similarly sized file is in the PSP tmp folder but I have not been able to find a way to open or restore it, in spite of searching the net and reading other people's similar problems. The file is not recognized in Auto-Preserve, although it had been auto preserving.
Ideas, anyone?

I think the file is corrupted and cannot be retrieved.

Hi Jean-Luc, thanks for your response. Yes, that was one of the threads I had already seen earlier :) But since it was a while ago, I hoped someone had found a way around it since then. The indications are that it's corrupt, and another one I was working on in a similar way after that one also did the same thing - froze at a particular point, the program froze completely, I had to do "end task" to close PSP and then when I tried to open the file, same response - recognized as PSP image, thumbnail preview works, but big file wouldn't open. Very annoying when one is putting a lot of time into something, and even auto save doesn't save it. For the moment, I am saving it separately in another location every few minutes so that I don't lose all that work. Which is what Auto-Save is supposed to do, of course, but in this instance, the auto save also seems to be corrupting it.

Anyone found a way to open a tmp file in PSP yet?
