Video shot on PanasonicHC-VX870 camera. MPEG 4K quality
PAL System
Transferred to computer using Panasonic HD Writer AE 5.2
Video 97minutes long; 41.4GB
Using Corel VideoStudio Ultimate 2018 to render it down to ~5GB
VS 2108 project settings changed to match video properties to enable smart render
Takes 3.75hours on my computer (Intel i7 processor) to render
Rendered File size 4,972,273
When playing the MP4 file it shows total length as 1:36:50 but at 14mins video stops and jumps to end.
What might be causing this to happen?

Re: VideoStudio Ultimate 2018 Problem
Why you had to use the HD Writer ? to join the 10 files ?
If you just need to render it down to ~5GB, than you can't get 42G (at 70M/s) to 5G and keep project settings match video properties.
something in your math isn't correct.

Sorry. Don’t understand your reply. I never mentioned 10(ten) files

So why you used HD Writer for? the HC-VX870 makes a single 41G file?WAPMAN wrote:Sorry. Don’t understand your reply. I never mentioned 10(ten) files

Re: VideoStudio Ultimate 2018 Problem
Ignore the reference to 10 video clips. But otherwise, some of what asik says is correct. Your camcorder films in 4K H.264 mpeg-4. Your project is 97 minutes long and the raw video is 41.4 GB in size. I assume you used HD Writer to transfer it from the camera to computer since that is what you normally do, though I suspect you could simply have plugged in the SD card to your computer and transferred it with Windows tools too.
But that is not the point. You have 41.4 GB of video and want to reduce it to around 5 GB. But your Project Properties match those of your video... So how do you think VS is going to reduce the size of the video by roughly 8 times? You would need to do it by substantially reducing the bitrate, though what the quality would be like after a really significant reduction I could not say -- especially if you retain the 4K frame size. I guess you could also downgrade it from 4K to HD, again with a reduced bitrate, but that too would affect the end quality.
So what we need to know is what properties you used to render the project or how you went about it since it would seem to be impossible to achieve what you are after using Share > Same As Project Settings...

Re: VideoStudio Ultimate 2018 Problem
Thanks for reply Ken
Yes, I do use HD Writer to transfer footage from camera to computer. (In the past I could not get VS to read the camera (HC-X800) directly - hence use Panasonic Software to transfer). Just 3 weeks into using a new camera HC-VX870. I video rugby games and then post them on a club site so that players and coaches can review the action.
Before detailing properties, I should say that I have successfully transferred files from camera to computer (with HD Writer) and used VS to reduce size from ~30-40GB down to ~5GB without problem. Quality of reduced size is good. Tried 3 times to date. First time had problem with video stopping after 8mins and jumping to end. Appeared to solve it by downloading camera footage again and rendering using VS. 2nd time worked without problem. Now on third time and experiencing same problem as first. Tried transferring footage again using HD Writer but this time still had same problem of video freezing after 14mins.
When I bring footage into VS timeline a message appears saying 'Do you want to change the project settings to match the videos properties so VideoStudio can perform smart render'. I click YES. Then choose SHARE and CUSTOM and choose MPEG-4 files (*.mp4) and then click on the 'wheel' image at righthand side and don't alter anything except on 'Compression' tab where i reduce Video Data Rate down until estimated output size is about 5GB. Currently Video DateRate is set to 6000. Typical clip has following properties:
File
File name: (Name i have given it)
File format: MPEG-4 File
File Size: 4,972,259 KB (4.74GB)
Duration: 5809.920 seconds
Video
Video type: H.264 High Profile Video
total frames: 145,248 frame(s)
Attributes: 24bits 3840x2160. 16:9
Frame rate: 25.000 frames/sec
Data rate: 6000 Kbps
Audio
Audio type:MPEG AAC Audio
Total samples: 278,899,712 Samples
Attributes: 48000Hz 16Bit Stereo
Bit rate: 256 Kbps
Under Settings on Main Menu in VS, and Project Settings, what should Project Format be set to?
Currently it defaults to 'Mobile'
Look forward to your reply
