Hi,
I have been using Ulead Video Studio for years and on an old Windows XP and Windows 7 Pro I could burn high definition videos but on the Windows 7 Pro system I had to install Windows Media 9 codec to be able to burn in good quality resolutions.
I now have a Windows 10 Pro system and have the same issue but can't install the Windows Media 9 codec. All the videos I burn have this in the project profile:
Windows Media Video 9 for Color Pocket PCs (225 Kbps)
No matter what I do I can't change this so the output videos are very low quality and blurry. I had this same problem when I installed it on the Windows 7 pro machine but the Windows Media 9 codec fixed it and I could burn videos that youtube recognised as high definition. When I try to install the Windows Media 9 codec on the Windows 10 pro machine it fails to complete and gives this error:
"There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personal or package vendor"
The problem is I have no idea what program it's referring to. Is there anything I can do to get it working so I can burn good quality videos? I know it's old software but it worked great on my old computers so am hoping I can get it working on the new one.

Windows Media 9 codec was published on 12/13/2004. According to MS, the Supported Operating Systems are Windows XP Home Edition , Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP Professional Edition (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... spx?id=507).Jamie D wrote:I now have a Windows 10 Pro system and have the same issue but can't install the Windows Media 9 codec.
Perhaps as you bought new Windows 10 Pro system, you might want to consider buying a newer copy of VS and avoid trying to kludge 15 year old software to work. However, if you have time to spare then you could try using the Compatibility Mode in Windows 10 to run your old software.Jamie D wrote:I know it's old software but it worked great on my old computers so am hoping I can get it working on the new one.

Re: Ulead Video Studio SE Codec Issue
You're right it's old and I should look to upgrade to something more modern but I managed to get it working. I did some more online searching and noticed a post about the K-Lite codec pack and remembered I needed that to fix the issue on the Windows 7 system so installed that and the Windows Media Video 9 codec for 64bit installed successfully but I still couldn't burn in high quality. I installed the 32bit version which fixed it and now have a lot more profiles to chose from when burning and can now use WMV HD NTSC 1440 x 1080.
