Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
I have an HP 64-bit laptop running Windows 10 Home version 1803. It has 12gb memory and 2tb hard drive.
I also have an HP Deskjet 2545 Ink Advantage All-in-One Printer. These hook into my Wireless Network and work well together.
I can print to this printer using Word 2013 AND can print and scan using MS Paint AND can Print from PaintShop Pro 2019.
But it will not Scan from PaintShop Pro 2019. This is my first attempt at scanning using this printer in Paintshop Pro 2019.
I never had a problem using my old version of PaintShop 9 but I'm sure things have changed with this version.
Here are some things I've done to resolve this before contacting you. I went to the HP website and it says that WIA Device Drivers are installed with their Basic Driver Package. But, just for the heck of it, I installed the Basic Driver Package again but nothing changed. Then I installed their Full Feature Driver Package, just in case. But nothing changed. Then I checked in services.msc and the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) was set to Automatic and was running. I stopped it and restarted it and rebooted but nothing changed.
I'm not very techie and I'm out of ideas. I hope you can help me. Thank you for your time.
Below are the screen shots showing the messages I am getting.
I tried to Import from a Scanner or Camera and got this message. Then I tried to Import using TWAIN Acquire and got this message. This was what I always used in Paintshop 9 but that was with a different printer. Then I went into Import using TWAIN Source and got this message. Then I printed a document and it found the printer with no problem. When I installed this printer (it's fairly new) it installed as a Web Services Printer. I don't know if this is a problem or not. I don't even know what that means. It did print the document with no problem.

I don't have PSP2019 so this may not work. But have you tried File/Import/From Scanner or Camera.

Will the new scanner work with PSP9?
PSP9 will function in parallel (at the same time as) a modern PSP.
If worst comes to worst, you can import from a TWAIN scanner to PSP9, save it as something, then open that file in a modern PSP.

Re: Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
When I installed PSP 2019, I uninstalled PSP 9. The main point of buying PSP 2019 was for the scanning capabilities. If I can't use it for that, then I've wasted my money. I would have thought it would work with HP printers since they are so common. Obviously, newer software is not always better.
And yes, Bruce1951, the first picture I included in my post was the missing WIA message that I got when I tried using Import from Scanner or Camera. I tried that and Twain Acquire and neither one works.

Are you running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of PSP? Did you install both? Does it make a difference which version you use?

Re: Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
I installed the 64-bit version of PSP2019. I didn't know I had the option to also install the 32-bit version and why should I want to when my laptop is 64-bit?
I used PSP9 for many years very successfully but I was using an Epson printer and using Twain Acquire. Then my printer died recently and I replaced it with this HP. Yesterday, I went back and re-installed PSP9 because I needed to do some scans. It gives me the same messages as PSP2019 is giving me. I don't have the ability to scan with either one now. That would tell me that it is a printer problem. I was hoping someone in this forum would have some kind of work around for me.
I opened a problem report to HP but haven't had any responses to it yet.
Thanks to everyone for their responses.

Re: Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
There are many reasons to install the 32-bit version as well as the 64-bit. For example when you need to use plugins or other software that's 32-bit only. Plugins for example are a handy use for the 32-bit version of PSP, especially older plugins.
You could always try the official TWAIN utility software (TWACKER) to see if it recognizes your printer. Here's an article on using TWACKER: https://developer.dynamsoft.com/dwt/kb/2644
I would download both the 32-bit and the 64-bit version of TWACKER. If the scanner doesn't show up in one of them, try the other.

Just a thought! Does any other software, such as a word processor, recognize the printer?

Re: Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
I can print to the printer using Paint and MS Word. And I CAN Import if I use Import using Scanner or Camera when using Paint. So if Paint can find the printer, why can't PSP? I didn't know I had that option in Paint. If I had, I might not have bought the new version of PSP. If Paint can find the WIA file then where is PSP looking that it can't find it?
Hmmm. It's a conundrum.

Re: Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
I was reading through the comments and saw a comment about running as an Administrator. I never had to do that with PSP9 but I tried it this time and got this message when I tried importing using a scanner or camera.
If I try to import using Twain in PSP9 while I have Twacker32 open I get an error message saying there was an error trying to enable the Data Source. I have no idea what that means. I opened PSP9 as an Admin.
Then with Twacker64 open, I tried importing in PSP2019 using scanner or camera and also tried Twain and in both cases I got the same error messages that I've been getting all along. I opened PSP2019 normally and also running as an Admin with the same results.

Re: Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
How long have you had this scanner? Is it still in warranty? Seems to me it is not fit for the purpose of scanning. Seems like obsolete technology--we got our PDF output scanner in 2013.

Re: Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
From what I can find the 2540 series was first released in 2014... though the 2045 model is probably more recent...
I notice, by the way, that there was a firmware update issued for the printer last year, and wonder if this is included with the software you received with the printer: see https://support.hp.com/ca-en/drivers/se ... el/8654988

Re: Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
Ken some of the numbers relate to printers sole in various regions and are in reality the same printers. ie some printers sold as 240volt versions have different numbers. I use a HP 1430. 240 volt in Australia. The same printer is sold elsewhere as a 1400.
I would suggest uninstalling the printer drivers and doing a reinstall of them.

Re: Do I need to define a Scanner/Printer or Network?
Do you have the option of connecting the scanner with a cable rather than wirelessly to see if it works that way. (Just trying to simplify the path and connection protocols).
