disc creation problem

Post by wlopatin »

This seems very weird. I have been using VSpro2018 since it came out and older VS products for about 5 years before. I just finished a video of a trip; it is about 55 minutes and has clips from a video camera, smartphone, and stills. I added music, sound effects, and over dubbed some of the descriptions. I then burned a Blu-Ray disc and watched it on my TV. I noticed that some of the overdubbing needed to be louder. So I opened the project, increased the volume and then saved the project. Then I went back to the SHARE tab to burn a new Blu-Ray. When I click on the Blu-Ray icon, as usual a new window opens and it starts by loading the project video. At this point everything freezes and I have to use "task manager" to close it. I rebooted the computer and tried several times and it freezes at this point every time.
I can make an MP4 of the video so at least I have that, but I am at a loss as to how to fix this. Troubleshooting suggestions would be welcome as well.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
There are two methods to burn any disc one is burning the actual project file
Method 1
With the project open on the timeline Share Disc – Bluray appears to be the method you are using.
The program creates a copy of the project file here
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\21.0\PRJ_CREATEDISC.VSPTEMP.vsp
It is this VSP that is used to burn the disc, during the process Create Title renders the project to a compliant video file used to burn the disc.

Can you confirm that you are able to open the project within the main timelines and that it plays without problems.
As you experience problems immediately after Share Disc Bluray I would expect the original project to also have issues?

Method 2
Is to first create a compliant video file from your project then use the video file to burn a disc
You can play the video to check quality, you would have identified the audio issue and saved on creating a coaster.
You mentioned being able to render to Mp4, if you chose AVCHD, 1920 x 1080 x 50i / 60i to create such a video file
To burn a Disc
Starting a new project simply to empty the timeline we do Share Disc Bluray -- Add video here choosing the compliant file created above
The burn process is faster as the files have already been created.

Thanks for the reply
I have just tried your suggestion method 2 and it works, but I used MP4 rather that AVCHD so I might just try it again.
Method 1 is my usual method and it is not working for this project. However as I noted, it did create the Bluray disc once. So I can open the project and play it and I even tried then to save it as a different name. Both play in VS but neither will let me burn any disc; I tried DVD as well as Bluray with the same result. The creation window opens, it says it is loading the project, then everything freezes and I have to shut down VS via the windows task manager.
I like to write down as much detail as possible so it might help others as well...

I would think it’s a problem with the original project although you would think it would show when rendering to the video file.
The reason for using AVCHD video m2t is that no further conversions are needed, the burner process starts with Convert Menu.
When you use MP4 or the project file the process will start with Convert Title, rendering takes time saving the video to a temp folder then uses that to burn the disc.

If you view the Settings Cogwheel lower left that shows the settings being used to convert / render.

Similar settings in Share AVCHD although here the data rate is a little lower.
Its about managing the files and reducing the number of renders needed to burn the disc.

I appreciate your help and the workaround of method 2 above did work and I was able to create the Bluray folders for burning.
I am still concerned that my original VSP has some type of problem that I don't understand. One hint: when I load the VSP and click on the share tab, the bluray button is already checked off. Usually nothing is checked on this tab until I click on bluray or dvd. Is this part of the problem?

Apparently there is more to the problem.
Using the suggested method 2 above, I created the AVCHD file and started a new project, inserted just this one file, save this VSP and then burned a bluray. It worked perfectly as noted. Then I wanted to print a label for my bluray so I went back to VS, loaded the just saved VSP (from the one file) and went to the bluray tab to get to the place where I could print a label. Again it said the media was loading and it never did and the program froze again. Can I just burn one bluray from a project? is this the problem? Seems strange.

Method 2
1 / we edit the project as normal
2 / render the project to a video file using Bluray compliant settings, 1920 x 1080 x 50i/60i ( aka 25 / 60 fps interlaced)
3 / now we start a new project, this is simply to empty the timelines, do not add anything here
4 / Share Create Disc Bluray will open the burner module, no videos or project
5 / top left for insert Video choosing the compliant video created in 2 above
6 / continue to create menus
7 / before burning the disc choose Close
You will be prompted to save the project, I suggest you choose a suitable name ( Burn my Video.vsp)
8 / from the main timelines choose File New just to remove the existing project
9 / open the Burn Video project, again nothing on the timelines,
10 / do Share Disc – Bluray, does that open ok

I cannot explain why you are having issues hear -- however you access the burner should not cause this, you should not be having these problems, I have run through the process a few times and accessed the burner module without problems.
I have not been able to replicate this issue.
And yes it is normal that the Bluray option is checked when we access the burner a second time.

I can only suggest that you try re-installing the program
