PSP 2019 glitch. Will not start back up after being closed?
NOTE: I have been using PSP for many years now and this is a problem that only started after I installed the 2019 version.
Here is the problem. The first time I start up PSPS 2019, it launches normally. But if I then close the program and try to launch it again before I have restarted my computer, psp refuses to launch. To start the program back up after closing it, I either have to restart my computer or go into the Task Manager and shut the PSP 2019 process down manually.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Re: PSP 2019 glitch. Will not start back up after being clo
How long does it usually get stuck? This is technically a known thing, PSP takes a few seconds to a full minute to fully shut down after closing. And because it doesn't allow you to have multiple sessions open at once it'll just refuse to open again until the background process has finished.
If it's taking more than 5 minutes to shut down it's probably been caught in a loop or is waiting for a response. Something has made it unresponsive. One issue that I'm aware of, if you use Manage Mode to track your images and you have a huge image database. It's been known to get stuck when that happens. Sometimes deleting the database and starting over helps.

Sometimes you have to find it in the Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del key) and kill it there.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

It does not matter how long. Minutes, hours, or days, it will not launch after being shut down, unless it restarts the computer, or kill the PSP process in the Task Manager. I do not use Magic Mode or any of PSP album management tools as I find them incredibly cumbersome and slow to use. Believe or not, I still use Picasa for album management. Best album management tool and quick editor I have ever found so far.

Hi
For me sometimes, not often the program does not completely close and the program shows in Task Manager even though it has disappeared from the desktop, as ehume reply.
Ending task in Task Manager has always allowed the program to start correctly.

Sounds like you have a bum installation. Any app can have a bum installation. Consider this:
If you have customized PSP, save your workspace as a named Workspace.
Then reset PSP.
Load your saved Workspace.
Run PSP.
If you still have the problem, save your workspace.
Uninstall PSP.
Run the Cleanup Tool.
Reinstall PSP.
Load your saved Workspace.
Run PSP.

Re: PSP 2019 glitch. Will not start back up after being clo
Yeah. With Corel products, it does seem that the only solution is generally to reinstall. I know this. I was just wondering if other people were having the same problem. The answer is, Yes. This means that the issue is not exclusive to my computer, so it is a code problem. Knowing this, I think I will forgo the whole reinstall process and just limp along closing the process in the Task Manager like I have been doing, and wait until Corel sends me the 75% OFF coupon they send me every year to upgrade to the next version.

It's not only PSP 2019 which does it. I've occasionally had the same problem over quite a few years with various versions of PSP. I quickly learned to go to Task Manager when it happens...

You are correct. This happened every so often with even the old JASC versions of PSP. So it isn't necessarily an issue that started with Corel.Ken Berry wrote:It's not only PSP 2019 which does it. Not only PSP but has happened using Video Studio, occasionally.
can be confusing when we are not aware.
It could be associated with the popups when closing the program as they would i believe leave the entry in Task Manager
and if we ignore the popup.......
Just a thought.......

Re: PSP 2019 glitch. Will not start back up after being clo
I personally have never had this particular problem with VS or earlier versions on PSP, but I do agree that Corel is getting out of control with their aggressive marketing trying to get you by their latest product. I mean I get hit 20 times a day by emails, in program popups, window system tray popups, etc, all offering me the same exact thing. It is quite intrusive and irritating. Many times I have thought of leaving Corel over it. I don't mind seeing ads on occasion, but once I have said NO to an ad, that should be the last time I see it, for at least a week. Sending me the same add four thousand times is not going to make me buy. It's like Corel has turned into a little kid trying to irritate his parents into buying an ice cream cone.lata wrote:Not only PSP but has happened using Video Studio, occasionally.

The tenth time I have seen this ad today and about the 200th time in the last week. Can someone please tell Corel that this is not the best way to promote their products?

Hi jungleexplorer
Have you deselected “Your Communication Preferences” from your Corel Account
https://account.corel.com/accounts/user/
You also have the option to manage your pc's notifications
Type notifications into the search box lower left, select the top item, here you should be able to turn off any you do not need, although i only see one for Video Studio, but worth a look.

Re: PSP 2019 glitch. Will not start back up after being clo
I am not saying that I don't want to ever get an ad from Corel, because about once a year when they offer the 75% Off ad, I will jump on it. What I am talking about is about the excessive repetition of the same ad on a daily basis. I get three types of ads multiple times a day. I get emails, in-program popups when I close the program, and windows system tray popups. All three of these types of ads are PUSH type ads, which means that Corel is Pushing them to you. So, someone at Corel has programmed their AD server algorithm to send these things out. I understand the need to advertise and I am okay with it, but we are not talking about a television ad here, where you are just throwing it out there and not sure who is seeing it, so you keep sending it over and over. We are talking about a system that knows EXACTLY who they are sending it to, and also if that person has seen it and rejected it. Corel KNOWS that I have seen these ads hundreds of times and said no, but they keep sending them. Not just once a day, but many times a day. And whoever is behind these ads is an idiot because they think if I turn down an ad for 40% of PSP Ultimate, that I will jump for 25% off PSP Pro. Sometimes I will get three different ads all at the same time, all offering different levels of discounts off the same program.lata wrote:Hi jungleexplorer

What I am saying is that there is no logic what-so-ever behind Corel's ad system. It makes no sense. Someone needs to talk with Corel's ad department and telling them to find a new manager that has a brain. To start with, they need to program their server to not deliver the same ad over and over again to the same person more than once a week. Once a person has said no to an ad, that server should be told to not send that ad to that person again for a reasonable period of time. Also, it stands to logic that, if a person rejects an offer for 40% of PSP Ultimate, it makes no rational sense that they would think that 25% off of PSP Pro was a better deal.
What Corel is doing is called, Shotgun Advertizing. Basically, blast away with as many ads as possible, hoping that one hits a target. It is also called, SPAMMING, and it is the same practice that very unscrupulous bad businesses and criminals engage in. It makes Corel look like a very shoddy company when they use these disrespectful tactics to promote their products. Especially in an age "Targeted" advertising and computer learning systems where they have the capacity to deliver ads in a much more efficient and effective manner.
How are they disrespectful, you ask? Imagine you are at a restaurant and the server asks you, "Would you like me to fill up your drink". You answer, "No, I am good for now." The server immediately ask you, "Would you like me to fill up your drink, now?" "No" you answer, "I just told you that I am good for now." The server says, "How about now! Can I fill your drink now?" You are like, "Hey bud, I just told you five seconds ago that I am good for now." But the waiter keeps asking you over and over again. So, you call the manager and tell him about the behavior of the server. That's when the manager says, "The sever is following our company policy. He is just doing what he has been trained to do."
Let me ask you, are you ever going back to that restaurant again if you were treated this way and found out that this behavior by the server was by design? Of course not. Well, this is EXACTLY what Corel has designed their ad servers to do and it is extremely unprofessional and disrespectful for a large company like Corel to act this way.
