Are you able to provide a short video sample, you would have to upload to a sharing site Google Drive, DropBox, One Drive etc.
We can then try on our pc’s although I would expect to see the same problems.

Well if EDIUS satisfies your needs then why use VS? However, for many VS users, VS has the features required to produce pleasing videos at an affordable price even if not every video format is natively supported.
