Download DV in VS Pro 2019 fails
Downloading a DV file from a tape, using the Capture Video, from a Pro Sony DVCAM drive appears to work until Stop Capture is clicked. At the end, after a second or two, the program simply disappears and the download goes with it. Have no problem doing a download in Magix Video Pro X6.

Hi
Sorry you are having problems capturing DV
I worked with Dv.avi for many years and found using a small program called WinDV
http://windv.mourek.cz/
a much better option mainly because it allowed me to set a file name instead of the default date format.
You should of course connect to the pc via firewire IEEE and select DV as the capture format, and where VS struggled that program seemed faultless.
Effectively that transfers the video to the pc as DV.AVI without any conversion.
Then simply import the clips to VS to edit.
Using VS, Mpeg2 format is available but recodes the video stream, transcoding during capture, Mpeg2 properties can be set by us.
DV would be the choice rather than Mpeg
Can you tell us how you connected the camera and what format you chose?
Are you running Windows 7 as I am not sure if Win DV is compatible to Windows 10?
As a side note :- Video Studio 2019 and Windows 7 does not support Digital Dolby

Re: Download DV in VS Pro 2019 fails
Thank you for your reply, Iata.
The DV stream is provided by a Canopus ADVC-700 Pro, not by a camera. This device has worked for me for a long time, converting analogue to standard DV and I've never had capture problems before. I tried your suggestion (thanks) for winDV: a short trial seemed to work fine, but it is a little bit clunky, without integration of capture and edit, especially as I have hundreds of short clips with perhaps 20 average per project. That is why I'm keen to have an integrated system for capture/edit. Up to now, I've used a Magix software, probably for nearly 10 years, and that is why I need something more modern with better bells and whistles.
Yes, I use Win 10 Pro on a modern, fairly high-end, machine, dedicated to video work.
I'll persevere. Ta much!

once capture you can load that AVI file to VS timeline and "split by scene" it will cut it nicely to clips.
