Studio 9.5 run problem

Just bought an HP Envy Laptop 2.4 12gb ram 250g SSD
it’s always worked fine on my desktop but for some reason I can only drop 40mins of video onto time lime for it to output an MP4 file that plays ok for the full 40mins.
If I put 50mins on the time line, or more, the MP4 file stops playing at around 12mins, the curser still travels along just showing a still picture. I have 150gb free on disc C (one drive)
Any idea what is causing this problem?

Not sure that I can add much to this if it worked on the desktop that sort of rule out the type of video/ codec etc.
My only thoughts at the moment are Smart Proxy
They are created when adding a video clip to the timeline
Proxy files do take a while to create and if VS is closed before they are created only part may be saved, your files are quite long.
That leaves VS playing the first part with proxies and the latter without, very difficult to test.
And of course when being created does load up the CPU which may affect the speed of the pc.

First I would disable Smart Proxy from Settings Smart Proxy – Enable – remove the tick
How does the video play, if slow and stuttering Enable Smart Proxy
Right click the clip on the timeline to Create Smart proxy files, can be done via the library.

Then do Settings Smart Proxy Manager – Queue Manager, I would expect an entry there when that has completed a small double icon will show on the clip. Settings Smart Proxy File Manager will show the created files.

Thanks Trevor for all your help, I have tried your suggestions and also went onto the NVIDIA site and downloaded the latest drivers, but nothing seems to work. I don’t know what to try next.

I just noticed that after closing VS the proxy file although not complete was saved and showed the proxy icon.
Can you check again by right click create proxy – then view the proxy Queue Manager.

Also proxy files were larger than the original video file when using the recommended proxy settings?

Thanks for all your help Trevor, all the proxy files are fully made up with none waiting in queue manager.
I did notice that proxy files were not being created as Pal, I corrected this but still no joy.
I have just about given up now and have decided to just use my desktop which has never given me a problem with Studio 9.5. As for Studio 2019 which I have had now for 2.1/5 months It is unusable as it keeps crashing after a few mins of use. Corel have been into my desktop but couldn’t sort it out, they moved it to stage two who came back and said they new they had a problem which they were working on, but if they can’t sort out this after 2.1/2 months they never will.
Anybody know a good reliable video editing program?
