Re: Huge flaw (maybe bug) with proxy
I’m in UK so also Pal, the sample I have came from a Panasonic FZ1000 camera as NTSC, I would not have thought that the frame rate would make a difference.
What are the properties of your original video files.
If you can upload a sample to a sharing site I don’t mind downloading and trying with Video Studio
Google Drive, One Drive etc.

raw file
Hi Lata,
As requested screen shots from mediainfo for 9sec clip raw and rendered.
I've included the my VS version details.
I used "Same as Project setting" and set the project setting to match 1st clip when I added the clip to the timeline.
I PM you re email address.

Correct, my mistake. I keep forgetting "same as" as I hardly ever use it...

Re: Huge flaw (maybe bug) with proxy
Well I just got pinnacle studio 23 and I think I may be moving in that direction. I had 22 but preferred the simplicity of VS also I got 22 while only having VS 2018 which didn’t have the color controls of Pinnacle 22, so once VS 2019 came out I thought it would be best for me, simple, good color grading, tons of plugins and also proxy files to work 4K video, and video masking that Pinnacle didn’t have. But now Pinnacle has all features on VS 2019 and finally supports AMD hardware acceleration, still testing that though (I was hoping VS 2019 would have and was disappointed to find otherwise since the box said it does but it’s misleading), and once I turn down the preview pre render to 60% all of a sudden I can work 4K files smoothly and no longer require a proxy so that saves me a ton of time waiting on a proxy.
No I’m sure VS 2020 will come out and have one or two things Pinnacle doesn’t (seems like Corel likes to stagger their options) but I think it may be time for me to learn Pinnacle better. Already the 3D text editor is more accurate (VS you make the letters HUGE in preview and then they appear small in project, weird. Seems some bugs are just not going to get addressed.

We all wish you success with PS23, PS forum is good but it doesn't have Trevor...
I hope PS23 bugs will be less annoying for you.

Re: Huge flaw (maybe bug) with proxy
thanks. yea Ill probably end up using both unless I just force myself to use pinnacle. the amateur in me still like the "klunky" cut and drag n drop of VS but im starting to see the benefit of PS working with just keyframes and PS has more control over their effects like key framing in and out effects where VS doesn't seem to handle that too well so you have to cut the clip etc. Also one effect just as example the invert color I was using just as a weird/cool intro PS has control over invert luma/chroma/chroma where VS just has no options and didn't allow the effect desired (sky came out brown rather than darker blue), I'm sure there are work arounds but seems sometimes you make things so simple they actually become more complicated when actually trying to use.asik1 wrote:We all wish you success with PS23, PS forum is good but it doesn't have Trevor...

Thanks for the sample
I am having no problems in rendering the file
Shows max as 100Mb with data rate as 91.5Mb, identical to original
I have tried rendering with and without Smart Proxy and Smart Render
All tests I have done end up using 91.5Mb
As the video is static with no movement it is difficult to check quality although the images I see look identical.
Rickmen, can you make that sample available on this post so others can check.
The project file is set for 100Mb, do not change or try to edit the project properties.
Open the vsp - relink to your video file - share - same as project

Hi Lata,
The link to the sample clip is...
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KcVFq3 ... sp=sharing
Any thoughts on why you can get the same bit rate as the raw clip but I can't?

Let VS change the project settings to match the video's properties (see image below). tletterRickMen wrote:Any thoughts on why you can get the same bit rate as the raw clip but I can't?

I've tried that but it still renders out to 60mbps.Let VS change the project settings to match the video's properties (see image below).

Re: Huge flaw (maybe bug) with proxy
I'm still on SP2 for VS2018. In the back of my mind I thought that maybe SP3 or SP4 might fix the issue (of not rendering to 100 mbps) but there is no mention of this issue been addressed in either SP3 or SP4 viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64616. I'm reluctant to apply the updates as my current configuration 'works' for me (except for the 60 mbps rendering issue). Any suggestions?

Re: Huge flaw (maybe bug) with proxy
FWIW I have just tested your clip in my VS 2018 which has SP4 installed. And I get a worse result than yours. With mine, I start off with your 99,999 kbps 4K but end with a bitrate of 32,118 kbps. And I get that bitrate when I use (1) Same As Project Settings (and I first matched those Project Properties to those of the clip) with SmartRender enabled; (2) Same As Project Settings with SmartRender disabled; and just in case (3) Same As First Video Clip. And I got those readings from both VS 2018 and from Media Info.
I also tested the clip in VS 2019 version 22.3.0.433 and got exactly -- exactly! -- the same result. So something quite strange going on for me too...
EDIT 1: I just downloaded lata's VSP and linked RickMen's clip to it. I rendered it Same As Project Settings in VS 2018... and got a bitrate of ... 32,118 kbps!
EDIT 2: I thought I would try Share > Custom, and set my own Properties there. But under XAVC I could only use a maximum bitrate of 65,000 kbps. Anything higher was automatically cut heavily. But I could at least produce a new clip with a bitrate of 63475 kbps.
I also tried creating my own Custom template using the Add function. I did so, linking it to RickMen's clip. The Project Properties clearly showed as 99999 kbps. But when I rendered it, again I got... 32,118 kbps!

Re: Huge flaw (maybe bug) with proxy
Wow.. that's weird. Thanks Ken. At least I can now rule out trying the SP update avenue as it appears not to be the solution. In my situation VS2018 still gives me a 99,999 kbps read out under properties but MediaInfo has 65mbps (and the rendered file is 2/3rd the size of the original).Ken Berry wrote:FWIW I have just tested your clip in my VS 2018 which has SP4 installed.
