Try using the Cleanup tool again, even though PSP didn't re-install. The tool should get rid of any lingering registry files.

Then clean up your Temp file in your C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp folder. The install attempts likely left some Corel PSP temp files there.

Then reboot your system.

Then try the installation one more time. And yes, you should let it try to install both the 32bit and 64bit versions.

That's all I can come up with at the moment.
After doing the above, you might try installing the newest CCleaner, just to see if you get the same error notice.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Are such available to us ordinary users?

I dont know. All the Microsoft agents have never spoken about any repair installation. I tried three times to download the previous version, but at 5gb it kept failing until finally a supervisor said I wouldn't be able to d/l such a big file!

Kafka would be proud of me with all I've been going through

I appreciate everyone's input to my sorry problems.

I'll try Joel and Kathy's suggestion after I relax for awhile. It's truly getting traumatic. I'm getting scared to find out what breaks next!

So the call from the person in the Microsoft escalation team was supposed to call me at 1 pm. At 430pm I get a call from the level one tech support to tell me that my case has been de-escalated.

So.... so much for getting Microsoft's help on this.

I can remember having a problem installing one of the pinnacle versions from a CD some time ago .
It would hang or just not install. After some consultation it was suggested that I copy the contentes of the CD to a folder on the desktop and then run the installation from there so it did not have the delays while reading info from the CD.
So try cleaning up and then copy contents and try and install. If you cannot copy all the contents of the CD that may indicate where a problem lies - faulty CD.

BTW with windows 10 forcing an update , one way of delaying this was to set your connection as a metered connection. I still have a version Win 10 1607 on one of my computers.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Thank you for this. Sounds worth trying.

Since the last episode, I decided to call Microsoft again (masochist that I am). He put me on remote connection and fIrst, he downloaded some feature of Windows that was not clicked on my computer, Net framework something. Then we tried another installation attempt of PSP and sure enough, it failed again. Then he went to the Corel site and started a download of the PSP 2019 file there. I am guessing that it would be something similar to what you're suggesting. It was taking a long time to download so we disconnected. I went to walk the dog, and when I came back I found an error message, a very stupid one. Something like "We have encountered a problem". So the #^&* thing wouldn't even download.

I can try the d/l again or see if I can copy something off the CD, but I'm not sure how feasible it is. There probably isn't one single zip file like there is with the download off the site.

One small bit of success though. I got the agent to admit that there could be a conflict with the 1903 update.
ANd, he told me how to stop updates. Three different services: Something with the acronym BIT (I forget what it stands for, something called "Cryptography" and Windows Update. Supposedly if you turn off these three services it will stop the update.

So, I might try downloading 1809 yet again, but I need to find a faster connection where it won't fail.

I hate computers!!!

Not to worry. I'm looking for anything at this point. Maybe Corel has something to offer. Who knows?!

What is your internet speed as thet seems to have been part of your complaint as well.
When I installed PSP 2019 it came down through an installer program about 5000KB long.
This downloaded a zip file and extracted it into another folder from which it set up.

The zip file was
psp2019_ult.zip and was 433 079 KB
When extracted it gave a folder called
psp2019_ult
with these files and folders
PSP2019files.jpg
I would expect these to be the folders and files found on your CD.
From there you just need to run Setup.exe for the program to install.

Hi
I have the identical files as shown by hartpaul
If your program is on CD I would copy the disc contents to your hard drive then try installing from there.
Even so your windows installation seems to be the problem not your individual programs, unfortunately.

Tell me about it. The question is boiling down to how do I convince Microsoft of that. They are intent to first try to prove that everything else is the problem, and have no problem sending me to hell and back multiple times before they will do anything like help me fix something in Windows.

But I'll try the idea of copying the files to disc. The visual of the files was helpful.

I havent had this much problem with a computer in decades. When I first started with DOS I thought that was too complex to understand. I had my father's hand-me-down IBM 2088 and I remember being on the phone with him frantically screaming "WHAT IS A C PROMPT???" Ah, those were the days.

OK, new question.

Corel responded and had me run some sort of audit on my computer and send them the file. The new joke is that whenever I try to "save/file" it pops up an error message of "File not found" as if I'm trying to open a file not save it.

Also, should I be worried about sending all this information to them? ALl it is looking like to me is a complete set of instructions for some clever jerk at Corel to hack into my computer.

UPDATE FOR TUESDAY MORNING

I copied all the files for PSP from the CD to my hard drive. I started the installation and.....

... it did the same thing. Installation wizard not completed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click FINISH to exit the wizard. Fatal error during installation.

If I keep this up there is going to be a real fatal error somewhere. Either from my having a heart attack or my killing a support technician by screaming at them on the phone.
