Paint Shop Pro 2019 vs Windows 10 1903
I have recently been forced into the latest Windows 10 update, version 1903. First it disabled the use of two old but working programs (Adobe CS2 both Photoshop and InDesign). I don't want to have to explain or defend my wishing to use them. But I bought PSP Pro last year as kind of a back up and thought it would maybe have a few different things I could use since I never have bought into all the upgrades Adobe has offered (let alone the subscription service).
I bought PSP soon after buying a brand new Surface a year ago. I don't know which version of Windows 10 it had. But PSP worked and it continued to work when I was forced to upgrade to 1803. Now about two or three weeks ago or so, a new upgrade was forced upon me. But I hadn't tried using PSP since today. It does open. (Photoshop gets stuck at finding a twain file and shuts down). So I'm one step ahead of Photoshop there. But all I was trying to do was paste an image from the clipboard. So I clicked on "New file" and the whole thing just shut down completely - poof it's gone. I reopen and try "new file from template" and poof it's gone again. I figure out a work around by clicking on the "edit" tab that's at the top of the open screen. And that gives me a workspace, finally, and I click edit/paste from whatever it says (special?) and it pastes in.
But then I click to save, I choose jpg . an easy file type, yes? And I get, first: "Unspecified Error". I click the "ok" button on that and I then get: "Unable to create the file".
I have tried this with jpg. I have tried this with tif. And I have tried it for the native Paint Shop Pro file type (psp). ALL OF THEM bring up the same error.
I reset the whole program through it's own reset tool (I believe it erases all the personal preference you have set for workspaces.)
the same problem continued.
This has never ever ever happened to me with Paint Shop Pro (or photoshop or even any other application). So the only difference that I can see is this new update with Windows.
I am having an ongoing conversation with people at Microsoft (I think I"m up to my 6th or 7th person, including three different agents, two supervisors, one Tier 2 tech, and one from "escalation") and I haven't even mentioned this problem with Paint Shop because it just happened after my last conversation with them.
I am not asking anyone to solve this Windows problem (unless of course you can) but I would at least like to know if anyone has been experiencing this, either with this new update or in previous updates. All I know right now is that the only computer that can let me work with any graphics program that I own right now is my desktop with XP!
I'm almost ready to start up with buying dark room equipment.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 2019 vs Windows 10 1903
An update to my post above.
I decided to try to reset all the preferences WITHIN PSP (rather than the "reset database" tool). I chose all of them but was getting an error message about file location. (I forget the exact words). So I unchecked the "file location" preference, and then everything reset. But I also went to preference/file location to be sure it existed, and it did.
I closed PSP.
Now I can't open it at all. I get the first splash screen of the double image of the lady with the camera and then, poof, it disappears and nothing further happens.
This is now exactly the same thing that has been going on with Photoshop CS2. It only confirms my suspicion that something is very wrong with Windows 10 version 1903.
SO anyone who has had any problem like this, even with a previous Windows 10 version, please let me know. It will only help me talk to Microsoft.

Hi
There have been problems in saving images a hot fix was provided by Corel, try this post
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=64929
There were two descriptions of the error “saving PSD crash" and "cannot save except for .pspimage"
Both provide the same fix
As for the program no longer launching I would think a re-install using the Cleanup tool to remove the program
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=52337
I also updated Windows 10 to the latest version with no issues?
But try installing the hot fix just maybe the program will then launch. crossed fingers

Re: Paint Shop Pro 2019 vs Windows 10 1903
I just looked at your first link and it says that is for PSP 2020, so I don't think I should try to install any fixes it offers for 2020 when I have 2019....should I?
I started to do a repair via the Control Panel/Uninstall thing in Windows, but then realized the discs were in my office elsewhere and didn't feel like retrieving them then. But I will look at your solutions first. I might have to just try reinstalling it all over.
In that second link you give me it warns: You should always use the Windows Control Panel to uninstall first and if there is an issue then use the cleanup tool.
I dont understand what that means. Uninstall everything then use the clean up too? That doesn't make sense. There would be nothing to clean up after you uninstall. Is that meaning uninstall, reinstall and THEN if you still have a problem use the clean up tool?
But I guess basically, to read between your lines, this must be one huge awful coincidence with everything else I'm having trouble with. Hard to believe, but I guess possible.
Thank you very much for your response. I'll put up another reply with results after I try all this.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 2019 vs Windows 10 1903
I have had to downgrade this machine (i7 4770k) from Win 7-64 to Win 10-64. The current version is 1903. PSP 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, X, XI, x4 x6-10 all work with no glitches. I also have most (all?) of the CS2 suite from Adobe. I'll admit, I don't use them much, but I've never had problems with them. So I think I have replicated your system and I don't have your problems. I don't think you can blame Windows 10, as satisfying as doing that is.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Jim that means that the average person who is not having any issues and who only wants to uninstall the program should use the Windows control panel method. Since you are having an issue you should use the cleanup tool.Jim Cricket wrote:

I dont understand what that means.
Hope that helps to clarify.

It clarified, so I used it. If completely removing the program is what Corel calls cleaning up, it sure as heck cleaned up.
THe program is now gone.
So I guess that forces my hand to just reinstall.
But sure would have been nice if cleanup meant what it suggests it means: cleaning up any corrupt files.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 2019 vs Windows 10 1903
I first posted a notice that I received a script error right after typing in my serial number and hitting next.
But then I tried it again and (for some strange reason) it worked.
I decided to choose both 64 and 32 bit installation just to cover all my bases. (Previously just installed the 64 bit)
The cd spun, the progress bar progressed, it did this for a few minutes and then..... it said fatal error and something about my computer has not been modified. I go to the folder where it should be, and nothing was there.
THinking that maybe my system doesn't like to have a 32bit program installed, I tried to install just the 64 bit.
Again the progress bar progressed, and the CD spun. And then the same "fatal error" message only it appeared in half the time. Not exactly what I call progress.
So, terrific. Instead of repairing the program off the CD which I had originally hoped to do after I retrieved the CD, instead I follow advice to use the clean up tool, it erases the whole program and now I can't reinstall it.
This feels like when I first started using a computer in 1995 and had trouble with every step of the way.

Thanks for that. It gave me a brief hope and I did a crash course on how to create new paths. I created two new paths for the Twain folder, one for me the user and one for the system. Photoshop still won't open. And see my other post for how I now don't even have Corel any longer.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 2019 vs Windows 10 1903
ok UPDATE
I've tried installing Corel PSP 3 times, once 64 and 32, just 64, and just 32. All three times I get a fatal error with no text as to what the error is.
So I decided to try installing a completely new program on the disc that I never installed before, Painter Essentials 6. I don't even want it but I thought I should try.
I clean the disc, blow on the cd machine to get out any duston the laser. and proceed. it does its thing, and then I get another fatal error, this time saying the temp folder is either full or inaccessible.
I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. I have hundreds of gigabytes available. there is a temp folder in wherever it usually is (both windows/system32 and my username/appdata/local/). i found many many files written to the latter temp folder, around the time of my attempts to install, so something is writing there. there are no pop up instructions from the installation that i need to create anything, let alone how i'm supposed to make it accessible.

Sounds like a Microsoft problem. You can usually do a web search on the specific error number for a translation. Do you really mean PSP 3? That is an old 32-bit app; I'm not sure it can run on our machines. Usually, you can empty temp folders with Ccleaner.Jim Cricket wrote:ok UPDATE

i already used cc cleaner the other day.
i don't have any error number whatsoever.
no i don't mean psp3
i'm having two concurrent problems. adobe cs2 suite with photoshop and indesign not opening
and now
Corel PSP 2019 first crashing when i hit "new" for a new file
and then after i reset all the preferences the whole thing wouldn't open
and now following the advice to use the cleanup program, it completely uninstalled PSP
and now I have tried four times to install PSP, every time getting a fatal error just as it finishes the installation.
i am expecting a call back from microsoft soon (i think it will be my 7th or 8th person)
but i'm about ready to throw this $1000 computer and every adobe and corel disc i have into the garbage. i shouldn't have to be doing all this insane troubleshooting.
but nevertheless thanks for your input. i thought it might help with photoshop because at the splash screen it gets to the twain driver and crashes.

All I can think of is to do a repair installation of Win 10-64 v1903.
Are such available to us ordinary users?

Re: Paint Shop Pro 2019 vs Windows 10 1903
Suface laptops have had various issues since its inception, so that could be one problem.
Try using the Cleanup tool again, even though PSP didn't re-install. The tool should get rid of any lingering registry files.
Then clean up your Temp file in your C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp folder. The install attempts likely left some Corel PSP temp files there.
Then reboot your system.
Then try the installation one more time. And yes, you should let it try to install both the 32bit and 64bit versions.

Try using the Cleanup tool again, even though PSP didn't re-install. The tool should get rid of any lingering registry files.
Then clean up your Temp file in your C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp folder. The install attempts likely left some Corel PSP temp files there.
