VS9 Thinks my video is to big to burn to a DL DVD when it's

Post by David9799 »

VS9 Thinks my video is to big to burn to a DL DVD when it's not. I have installed all the updates for VS9 and it wont even ley me make a disc image (.iso) on my hard drive it will say the same thing that i have to much content.

The file is 7.694.964kb on the PC. DVD+R DL should hold 7.95 of pc data. When i go to create a disc VS9 list the required space at 9.35GB!! I have already converted the file to DVD and i have checked marked do not convert compliant mpeg files.

What am i doing wrong?

My orginal video was 2 hours 45 min and 24 sec VS9 said that was to big to fit on a DL DVD.

I keep on triming it down untill VS9 said it would fit so my video ended up being 2 hours 20min and 13 sec and the .iso file was 6.632.736kb!!!

Is this a bug in VS9?

Instead of trimming the video, lower the bitrate.

I shouldn't have to more video will fit. I only trimed the video to see when VS9 would say all the video would fit on a DVD+R DL and then i made a .iso file to see how big it would be if i where to burn it to DVD and it was only 6.632.736kb big if i would have burned that it would be a lot of wasted space.

Why does VS9 say a .iso file that is 6.632.736kb big is all that will fit on a DL DVD?

It wont even let me make a .iso file to burn whith another program. I just get the error "to much content" I have 500GB of HD space.

Is that a single video file you are adding to the project? What are the properties (right-click on the clip in UVS, select Properties, and paste the information in your reply)?

yes it is a single video file

data rate 8000 kbps
audio is mpeg layer 2 bit rate 224 kbps
29.970 fps

DVD Workshop is fine with the file but i like VS9 better i just wish it worked right. Like i said when i cut down my video to where VS9 said it would fit on a DVD DL the iso file was only 6.632.736kb.

My guess it's the fact that you have MPEG2 audio in your source file, which must be converted to LPCM or AC3 in order to be NTSC-compatible. If you select AC-3 for your output, you should be able to fit it on one disk. If it's LPCM, it's an uncompressed format that hogs 1536Kbps.

Yes all my DVD's use MPEG2 audio they play fine on evey dvd player i have tired and take up less space.

Your missing the point though or i make no sense :D Why does VS9 say a .iso file that is 6.632.736kb big is all that will fit on a DL DVD?

I used DVD WorkShop with the same video file and i made a .iso file 7.90 and it let me burn that onto a DVD. :?:

I guess I don't fully understand what you are doing. I've burned DL projects myself with UVS 9 using my Plextor PX-716A, and not had any problems.

Set the disk capacity in the project settings to indicate DL media, and make sure the audio format matches that of the input file (MPEG2). If you are going to output to an ISO file and you get a warning indicating that the project won't fit, let it go ahead anyway to see how large the file winds up being.

Also, be aware that if the location where UVS assembles the output files contains other files or folders, they will become part of the ISO, which can inflate the size.

After i get the message "project cotent over limation" i click on ok and it dosen't do anything? If i could get that part to work i would be happy!

Glad you got the problem solved!!!
I have a 3.3GB file that VS says won't fit on a DVD also. I can't use VS since nothing will fit on a DVD.

If if makes you feel better, on other message boards, many, many people have the same problem. No one can solve why VS can't put 3.2GB, 3.5GB, 4.1GB files on a DVD. Each time I have to waite 5+ hours before it tells me it won't fit.

What program did you change to? Since I can't use VS, Chris.

I am also having this exact same problem.

My Project size is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Before rendering if I try to Create Disc and set variable bitrate at 8000, it is just a little bit over and it won't let me write to ISO or a VIDEO_TS folder.

So I first render my project to DVD Compliant MPG file at 8000 variable bitrate. The size is only 7 gig. So it should fit right?

Now when I click Share, insert my compliant mpg file and set the project properties to match my mpg file (ie. 8000 variable bitrate and and same audio) and click "Do not render compliant mpg...", it still complains that it is over the limit and won't create the darn disk. If I lower the bitrate, it will re-encode my file which is someting I don't want.

Has anybody got a solution to this yet?

Are you, by chance, trying to burn to a RW disc? VS9 wouldn't let me write to previously used RWs - wouldn't do a Disc Erase either. I tried a +R disc and it burned fine.
