Is Videostudio really just Pinnacle Studio?
Looks and feels like it is, just different UI lay out. Why would I purchase this over Pinnacle?

Re: Is Videostudio really just Pinnacle Studio?
There are probably only a handful of our members who also have Pinnacle. I don't so can't really comment in much of a specific way. Yes, Corel now own Pinnacle as well as Video Studio, and yes, they have a similar appearance. But they are aimed at different audiences. Some say that given Pinnacle's preceding ownership by Avid indicates that it is aimed at a more professional audience, while VS is pretty clearly aimed at us home enthusiasts. But on the other hand, some of the things appearing in the latest version of Pinnacle have been in VS for two or three versions now.
There is also some discussion -- and worry? -- about Corel's plans and whether that includes blending the two programs at some time in the future. However, if that is their intention, I suspect that that future may not be immediate.

Ken. Thank you for at least attempting a discourse. I went to work for Pinnacle after they acquired my previous employer, FAST Multimedia in 2001. We had a professional editor called Silver and Blue. That was renamed Liquid. The current code base, at least much of it was in Pinnacle is the old Liquid engine. I've used Premiere for a number of years now and I feel like I pump too much money into Adobe so I began evaluating a host of editors, including VideoStudio and Pinnacle. I looked at Videostudio first and at first, there were a number of parts that just felt like Pinnacle. But after installing Pinnacle Studio 23, I see now underneath they are entirely different and Studio still retains much of the FAST coding that was Liquid Edition.
Studio was never meant to be marketed to Professionals. Avid wanted a consumer video and audio division and gained those from Pinnacle. On the professional side, Avid stole the best parts of Liquid and put it into Media Composer of which I never was a fan of, and still am not after giving it a go a couple weeks ago. If anything, Studio is great for Prosumers, videographers, etc. It does have a great deal of professional items for its timeline. However, Videostudio has an equal amount of good qualities. It would make sense that they have only one product and code base but given that the two underlying engines are so vastly different, including branding, who knows. I'm going to continue working with VideoStudio and see if it has what I need, and get reacquainted with Studio to see where it's at. I heard after the Corel buyout it was pretty buggy for a few years so who knows. I just need to find the right tool, I dont care who's name is on it ya know?

Strange that you started with "Is Videostudio really just Pinnacle Studio?" but then "after installing Pinnacle Studio 23, I see now underneath they are entirely different"jdfigura wrote:That was super helpful.asik1 wrote:You are totally wrong, but if you feels they are the same than go to pinnacle.
Choosing software should relate to the type of work one does and how he can handles the crashes.
I had few Pinnacle versions for some time, and they didn't appel to me as they can't masks so, hardly ever used beyond few tests.
Now I'm shifting out of VS also.

The answer you have to give yourself. But first you have to get to know such a program, get to know it with a post-production. For years I have both NLE on the system. And a few more. I think that I can judge it. In certain features, the video editor is always similar to others. This is due to their tasks and plugins from external manufacturers.jdfigura wrote:Looks and feels like it is, just different UI lay out. Why would I purchase this over Pinnacle?

Strange that you didn't bother to read my response to someone else... Yes I asked the question I did before I bought Pinnacle... I think it was self explanatory why I asked the question. You seem to be intent on trolling versus discussing. As for VS... it crashed 4 times while doing simple things such as editing a title, adjusting transition time, etc. Each time it crashed, it tossed my project. On the trial version it wouldn't render out an MP4 without articfacting and tearing. Tech Support told me to buy full version. I did. When I finally got through a simple edit and exported a 10 minute clip, it took 22 minutes and still had artifacting and tearing. At least with Pinnacle, after I bought it too, it didn't crash, and was a 1:1 render.asik1 wrote:Strange that you started with "Is Videostudio really just Pinnacle Studio?" but then "after installing Pinnacle Studio 23, I see now underneath they are entirely different"jdfigura wrote:That was super helpful.asik1 wrote:You are totally wrong, but if you feels they are the same than go to pinnacle.

As for it looking like PS... yes on the outward interface, it has a great deal of similarities in its UI, including its registration, start screens, etc.
