I created a DVD with Ulead VideoStudio 9. It plays fine on my DVD player and on my computer, when I use WINDVD software, but when playing it back on my computer using Windows Media Player, I don't get the audio portion.
I 've created other DVDs using Windows Movie Maker and Pinnacle Studio and they play fine with Windows Media Player. Is there a settings issue that I am overlooking when creating the DVD or is this a compatability issue that can not be corrected?

Hi
Digital dolby is supposed to be good.
I assume you are in the US where lpcm is the norm, but uses a lot of memory space, compared to AC3 or mpeg audio.
I am in the UK and seem to be able to use either; I stay clear of lpmc because of the memory usage.
Every time I see a commercial Dvd it uses Digital Dolby.
Since version 9 i have converted from Mpeg to digital Dolby.
Wait a while for the US boys to wake up and you should get further replies to this posting

If you are unable to correctly play the DVD on the computer that created the disk, apply the patch for UVS 9 from here.
If this is a different computer, you need to install something like the DirectShow AC3 Filter.

Hi thoff,
Downloaded , saved and ran patch. No help. Still no audio when playing this particular , recently finished, DVD on Media player. DVD works fine with WinDVD software and other dvds work fine with media player. Just not this one. Puzzling. And somewhat worrisome since I've made 25 copies, will be delivering them next week and didn't want people to have problems in the event they played it using Windows Media player, (it's a highlight video of this summer's baseball season).

The DVD should still play fine on standalone players.
The problem is with computers. First of all, everyone would need a DVD decoder, which is not something that comes with Windows. That's problem number one.
The second problem is that in addition to requiring a DVD decoder, you need Dolby Digital support if you use AC-3 in your project. If a DVD decoder is present, then the DirectShow filter I referred to will allow the audio to be decoded in Windows Media Player.
The best thing would have been to create a disk using LPCM audio -- this format is part of both the NTSC and PAL DVD standards, and requires no additional decoder in either standalone or software-based players.
