How to make thumbnails of brushes display instead of icons?
In C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2018\Corel_01 we have a folder full of .PspBrush files and .PspScript files. They show up with only icons, albeit PSP 2018 icons:
I would like to see thumbnail images, like my main working file. No icons:
Does anyone know how to do this?

Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Re: How to make thumbnails of brushes display instead of ico
Extensions that will open to an image in PSP if you click on them, but show up as an icon in File Explorer (containing folder):
.PspBrush (Corel_01)
.PspGradient (Corel_06)
.PspMask (Corel_07)
.PspSelection (Corel_12) (this icon, BTW, opens PSPx7)
.tub(Corel_10) (it's a PSP7 icon, but opens PSP 2018)
The .PspSelection icon looks like this:
.PspBrush (Corel_01)
.PspGradient (Corel_06)
.PspMask (Corel_07)
.PspSelection (Corel_12) (this icon, BTW, opens PSPx7)
.tub(Corel_10) (it's a PSP7 icon, but opens PSP 2018)
The .PspSelection icon looks like this:

Re: How to make thumbnails of brushes display instead of ico
Another couple of things: the .tub files are inconsistently rendered. You can see that the first pair have a PSP-64 logo on the bottom right corner. In the main working directory, .pspimage files have a PSP logo on the bottom right, but it's a PSP-32 logo. Interesting, eh? The next two .tub files are represented by icons, not thumbnails, and most of the rest of them have PSP8 logos on them. Curiouser and curiouser.

Have you tried clearing your icon cache and seeing if that corrects the problem?

No. That sounds like a good idea. How does one do that? In 37 years, I never have.LeviFiction wrote:Have you tried clearing your icon cache and seeing if that corrects the problem?

Did a web search, deleted icon caches two different ways. Followed your link, deleted icon caches and thumbnail caches, confirmed with dir commands. No change. Frustrated am I.

I use MysticThumbs and see all PSP file types, except Gradients, as images within Explorer folders and all dialog boxes.ehume wrote:I would like to see thumbnail images, like my main working file. No icons:
I find it worth the cost of the app to see the majority of the many file types in my folders and dialog boxes as thumbnail images.
In screenshot I show the file types you mentioned, as seen within Explorer.
SageThumbs, which is free can also display some thumbnails, but I prefer MysticThumbs.

Re: How to make thumbnails of brushes display instead of ico
Thank you very much. SageThumbs has given me most of what I wanted. Now the only extensions left are
.PspGradient
.PspSelection (these can be opened in PSP)
.PspStyledLine
Pretty good.

Re: How to make thumbnails of brushes display instead of ico
Weird. I installed the SageThumbs extension and got:
which is what I wanted. Better, in C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2018\Corel_02 I got:
in which every .pspimage file was rendered. So far, so good. Then I went to my main work folder. The transparency around the horse was white -- basically showing the transparency as transparent. Also good. But the .pspimage files were all blank (there are more that didn't fit on the attached image):
So at the same time all the .pspimage files were rendered in one folder, all of the .pspimage files were blank in another!
Worse, when I invoked the Save As function, I got blanks. The files still open in PSP.

Re: How to make thumbnails of brushes display instead of ico
I uninstalled SageThumbs, but nothing has changed.
Edit: a workaround: when one changes the image from X.pspimage to X.PspImage, the images display properly. However, there is no way to uninstall this beast.

Re: How to make thumbnails of brushes display instead of ico
I tested Sage years ago and wasn't happy with it so moved to MysticThumbs. Ian added in the extra PSP file types on my request.
As far as I know PSP Gradient files cannot be shown as an image because it is just data.
When one of my files show black for transparency in Explorer I use MysticThumb's Context Menu to fix it as there are plenty of options to set for all file types.
Although the program is subscription based, there is no need to renew a subscription at the end of a year unless you want newer updates after the year is up, or you want support, or if the program stops working after some major MS update.
On my main PC I update yearly but on my old testing Laptop I only do it every few years.
Re with Sage after Uninstall, you may need to reboot, or restart Explorer via Task Manager, or Rebuild the Thumbnail Cache.

Re: How to make thumbnails of brushes display instead of ico
I did a reboot after uninstall, made no difference. What made a difference was time. Initially, X.PspImage --the old PSP standard -- showed up, where X.pspimage -- the new PSP standard -- did not; now both do. This is nice. It works. I can go to bed now.patara wrote:I tested Sage years ago and wasn't happy with it so moved to MysticThumbs. Ian added in the extra PSP file types on my request.

Re: How to make thumbnails of brushes display instead of ico
And on the day after, still all good. All the X.pspimage files show up; no X.PspImage needed. One nice tidbit: the little badges in the lbottom right corner are gone. So SageThumbs did its job and did not spoil already-functioning files.

Showing the File icon on thumbnail images can be turned on or off in Folder Options so presumably when Sage set the thumbnails it deselected your setting to show them on thumbnails.ehume wrote:One nice tidbit: the little badges in the lbottom right corner are gone. s.
I noticed they were in your earlier screen shots....Patricia
