Creating a single video from multiple projects

Post by jparnold »

I seem to remember doing this in the past but cannot work out how to do it now.
I have multiple projects I want to amalgamate and create a single rendered video file (MPEG).
I created the multiple projects so that I didn't have an unweildly huge project to edit.

I realise that I can render each project into separate video files and then import each rendered video file into one contiguous project and then RErender but won't this loose some quality?

Otherwise is it possible to add multiple projects into a single project and if so how?

How does everyone else create say a video of an overseas trip which contains literally hundreds of individual video clips? Hey it's not Ben Hur or anything like that, the completed video will run for around 25 minutes.

Thanks

Hi John
There is a process called nesting where we can insert a VSP project file to the timelines
This is achieved by using the library to drag and drop a VSP, obviously we first have to import our VSP’s to the library.
I would create a new library folder for those files.

The nesting process had some issues but has been improved using the newer versions of VS, you show using X6 is this correct.
I believe the process should work but you can only drag and drop as a single file, the later versions allow dropping to show all clips used in the project.
Once you have added the VSP’s to the library further editing of the project may corrupt the library.
Please note you cannot insert projects to the library that have been nested. That is any project containing a vsp file.

Ok
Make sure all your projects are complete
Import the VSP’s to the library, same method as importing video clips
Treat each vsp as a video file and drag to the timelines to build up your new project
Render to your preferred video format.

Thanks Trevor.
I have recently been able to purchase a legitimate copy of VS10 but haven't transitioned over to it yet.
I think I have solved this. I wasn't waiting long enough for all the files associated with a vsp to be read from disk and started to try and select it again causing VS6 to become 'unresponsive' and crash. I just noticed after selecting the first vsp file that my drive light was flashing heaps and realised that it must have been reading heaps (just like it does when opening a project - silly me for not thinking of that).
I also noticed that when I right clicked on 'files of type' it did list vsp files as one which could be selected and so that then proved to me that I could import a vsp file.
Thanks for the warning. Is that warning also true for VS10?
Thanks.
