Video Studio 2019 Clips Are Jumpy
Hi, I just bought Corel Video Studio 2019 and am having no luck with it whatsoever.
When I'm editing the clips are jumpy and choppy. I can't see what I'm editing because the clip skips and jumps. The application has also quit 3 times. I only installed it today.
Before purchasing the software I checked the system requirements and as far as I am aware, everything should be running smoothly. It's not. It's a brand new laptop. With nothing else on it except Video Studio.
I've read so many posts of similar problems and have tried turning all the Proxy settings on and off or adjusting the clip quality etc, etc. Nothing is working. It seems to be exporting fine with great quality. But I can't edit accurately because of the choppy quality of the clips.
The sheer volume of posts and videos on-line of people experiencing similar or other problems with Video Studio 2019 is alarming.
I don't wish to download other pieces of software or applications to fix this. It should work fine on installation. I shouldn't have to download other stuff or fiddle around for hours and hours to make this thing work.
It's frustrating that Corel doesn't appear to offer much in the way of help or advice in its guide. I can't find any Troubleshooting pages.
Unless I can fix this I will be demanding a refund.

Re: Video Studio 2019 Clips Are Jumpy
Hi JDPhotography
And welcome to the forums
The jumpy playback seems to indicate that Smart Proxy should be used although you do not give any details of the type of video you are using?
Proxy files do take a while to create so you have to be a little patient, once created a small double icon can be seen on the timeline clips as well as the library.
Proxy files are created when adding a clip to the timeline, for clips already on the timeline, right click and choose Create Smart Proxy files.
Hopefully that will improve / smooth playback
You can view progress via Settings Smart Proxy Queue Manager
Unfortunately the program does appear to suffer some silent closures, from my experience at random the program becomes unresponsive for a second or two then simply disappears, I found this most disturbing and frustrating. I have learnt to hit Ctrl + S to save my work at regular intervals.
I am hopeful that Corel will address this in the next service pack.
In the meantime can you report your experience to Corel Support

Verify that Smart Proxy is enabled and that all clips have a proxy file created. Another possibility is that your system is underpowered and you're trying to work with 4k clips. However, you didn't provide any relevant details about the clips that your using and your profile is mute about your system hardware.JDPhotography wrote:When I'm editing the clips are jumpy and choppy.
We don't work for Corel so by all means exercise the 30 day moneyback guarantee if that's your want having "only installed it today."JDPhotography wrote:Unless I can fix this I will be demanding a refund.

Re: Video Studio 2019 Clips Are Jumpy
Thanks for the responses.
Thank you lata for a detailed and helpful response. I'll give it a go whilst I await a positive reply from Corel. They've started quibbling about a refund, wanting to go through various technical aspects first. The application quit 3 times for no apparent reason and that's just simply not good enough. I should be entitled to my money back with no questions asked, as that most certainly is 'my want,' but they have refused thus far. I'll give it a look, but to be honest, I'd just like my money back. I bought another editing system last night and it works just fine. No lagging, with very smooth editing previews and the most stunning export quality. These aren't big clips or large files. 720. If it can't handle that then it's a joke.
My machine is brand new and high powered. Supposedly more than enough for my Corel needs. I just think this is a poor version of an editing programme, full of issues and is a waste of money. As seems evident by the overwhelming number of complaints and problems raised by other consumers and users. I saw these complaints beforehand but thought it was down to a slow PC or something, so I followed the Requirements to the letter, with a brand new machine and it still won't work properly. It's simply not good enough. I could understand if the application was Open Source or free, but it's not.

DO NOT BUY Video Studio 2019 !!!
Just curious. Is anybody familiar with the Corel Money Back procedure or has anybody had experience dealing with the company before, in terms of correspondence ? I don't want the software. I think it's inferior to other programmes out there and a waste of money, given that it quits unexpectedly. Yes, I tried the proxy settings and it does improve the editing playback, but nothing seems to stop the software from quitting whenever it feels like. It does it with 720 files and is not like it's being overworked. It quits with just 2 or 3 clips loaded. As I've explained, my machine is brand new, high powered and up to date.
The alarming thing is that, having accepted my order and apparently taken my money, the company is now ignoring my requests for a refund. I've been waiting 4 days for a response. Nothing.
This is rude and unprofessional.
In my personal opinion, I would not recommend this company or software to anybody. DO NOT BUY this software !!!

Re: Video Studio 2019 Clips Are Jumpy
I just started editing 4K videos on my I7-85580 laptop with NVMe SSD. If I create proxy files for clips I can put the clips on the timeline and play them great. But if I play the clip from anywhere other than the timeline (Media folder, Single Clip Trim, Multi-Trim Video) it stutters so bad that it takes about 10 seconds to go thru 2 seconds of video. Impossible to set in & out points. Went back to my 2018 version and it the same way. Tried it on another of my PCs.
It is apparent that VideoStudio doesn't use proxy files anywhere other than the timeline (which is not a good place to try to set multiple in/out points).
As for VideoStudio crashing, I have been using it off and on since X2 (~2008 I think) on about half a dozen PCs. It has always crashed and will always crash. You just learn that some things can't be done on some videos, at least on some days. At least at one time, other programs that use DLLs (dynamic link library) shared across running programs if loaded first can load an old DLL (that they need) and once in memory VideoStudio has to use it even though it needs the newer version. My suggestion is to reboot your PC, close as many programs as you can, then open Task Manager and end unneeded process before launching VideoStudio.

Re: Video Studio 2019 Clips Are Jumpy
I had an issue like this, I couldn't format it because it was jumpy. It made editing impossible. Solution: the .mp4 video clip was corrupt so I used https://video.online-convert.com/convert-to-mp4. I convert the .mp4 file to another .mp4. I then took the new .mp4 file and I opened it in Video Studios and it stopped jumping. issue resolved

Re: Video Studio 2019 Clips Are Jumpy
For me, it is all mp4s. I have upgraded to the 2023 version and it "seems" to keep up though it is jumpy and the sound is choppy. It is apparent they STILL are NOT using the PROXY. The quality is just as BAD before the proxy is generated as after. I just don't UNDERSTAND why their INCOMPETENT programmers don't use the proxy for Single Clip Trim, Multi-Trim Video.
