I am using PSP7. When I save png files with transparent backgrounds from websites the bkgnd shows as black when I open it.
How can I correct this.

Where do you find png's with transparent backgrounds on websites? My copy of PSP7 (updated to 7.04) shows transparency when I open a png I have made myself. I can't tell you about png's downloaded from the Web.

What I do know is that it is important to apply the updates if you have a pre-update PSP7. I can't remember exactly what after 20 years, but I remember that PSP7 was crippled without those updates.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

My PSP is updated to 7.04.
If I make my own png's in PSP they have transparent backgrounds.
The png's that I download are from http://animationlessons.proboards.com/
from this page http://animationlessons.proboards.com/t ... 7th-august
the members post pics for use in images and animations etc.

I downloaded BBD_16_U4OJ_FRAME_06small2-vi.png (2d frame). It had transparencies inside and out.

Two things I can think of

1) If you copy and paste a PNG the result will be a black background because PSP doesn't recognize the alpha channel of a pasted image. So you need to make sure you're downloading the file and saving it to your harddrive before opening them in PSP.

or

2) They are using single color transparency and you don't have View Palette Transparency turned on.

Thanks all.
I am using 'save as' to download the files. It may be a fault with my laptop because on my other laptop the files are transparent.
