Win 10 and Jasc PSP 9.01 update

Post by arturox »

G'day folks...

Back in July 2017 I had a Subject topic "PSP 9 failing to install on Win 10" Pro

Summary: Computer died, repair cost quote was silly, so purchased a new macine, and by then the only OS supplied was an early Win 10.

After may attempts at installing Jasc PSP 9/9.01 which all failed, I gave up and purchased PSP 2018 which I've had to use since then.

Every now and then I'd try to install PSP 9 but it always failed.

That is until the recent Win 10 1903 update...

Out of habit, and a yearning for PSP 9.01 I tried again after the 1903 update and to my amazement it installed without a single moan and works okay, obviously except for the couple of things like printer selection...

I thought this must be a freak, so I went to my second computer Win 10 Pro, 1903 and has a go at installing PSP 9/9.01 and yes it installed and worked without a moan.

Played about with it for a while, and yes it was okay.

[Before the moaning ninnies raise above the parapet] I have now uninstalled it from that machine... Don't do graphics on that one.

Now to the Laptop Win 10 Home 1903.
Interestingly with this different version of Win 10 (Home rather than Pro as on the Desktops) PSP 9/9.01 will not install, showing the same failures as in the past.

So I just thought it worth a mention in passing.

Amazing. I had installed PSP9 from CD without problems, but updates would not install. This time, the Jasc patch, 9.01, installed. Thanks. But since you have PSP 2018, you know how good it is. I for one would never go back.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Mmnnn! Yes I do have PSP 2018 clunkware, but it's slow to start, clunky to use and has Ridiculous/stupid tool size sliders that go into the thousands... Of what I know not!
Additionally the sliders themselves are far to small/thin to see and use easily if you are an ageing person.

ATM. Because I now can, I've gone back to PSP 9.01 for a big project I'm doing, and it's so much faster in all respects to get through each part of the project.

Nb: Out of interest, what are the figures in the tool size indicators meant to represent.
They don't represent percentage, and they don't represent pixels, so what do they represent?

I always figured the numbers to be arbitrary.

At 70, myself, I appreciate the larger icons. And because I can no longer work, I have time to wait on the newer PSP. Nonetheless, I agree with you on how downright snappy PSP 4-7 is. Even PSP 8.10-9.01 are pretty fast.

This is amazing!!!
I just installed Jasc Paintshop Pro XI. Haven't played with that in years.
What a joy and it also shows that so much that is sold as "new" was already invented by Jasc. Just never knew.
Made my own toolbar. What a sentimental journey! :D :D

Unfortunately PSP 9.01 was the last real Jasc PSP, thereafter with an X prefix in the name it slowly version morphed into something else, into the strange creature it is today. So PSP X1 (Eleven) was Corel.

I have CD's of JASC PSP 9 (note the Arabic numeral) and Corel PSP XI (note the Roman numeral). So to which are you referring?

Interesting: the post about older updates is no longer a sticky. It was posted Fri Dec 29, 2006 7:43 pm, so you can imagine how far it fell in the forum. Luckily Advanced Search came to my rescue. Its permanent location is:

Corel is providing links to updates from x4 on. For earlier updates, one must go to the Scrapbook Campus:
http://scrapbookcampus.com/resources/psp-patches/
There you can find 9.01,7.04. Enjoy.

I wouldn't have a serial for 9 anymore. Got that of a disc that went with a magazine.
Wasn't as rigorous with noting down (download)details. So won't be able to try PSP 9, unfortunately.
I thought Corel's first version was X2 and that's where the trouble started

Actually, PSP9 was JASC. PSP X was Corel. I don't know when the "trouble" started, but PSP XI looked like previous PSP's. PSPx4 (the next one I have) looked like today -- I assume from its merger with Biddle.

Corel's first outing after the Jasc takover was version X (10).

Back to PSP 9...
Interesting, I've never had a serial number for PSP 9. I purchased it as an update to PSP 8.0/8.10 back in the days.

The recent install I have, after the Win 10 update didn't require a serial key.

Ax

Aside... The first version I got of PSP was on a 3.5inch stiffie sellotaped to the cover of a magazine, it was a 3. something version, and later the first version I paid real money for was 4.0 and it came on a CD.

But that was a long time ago in the last century when I was using Widows 95... Ooeer!

I think what you got was Paint Shop, not Paint Shop Pro. PSP was always a paid-for version, Paint Shop shareware. IIRC I got Paint Shop 3 like you, but paid for Paint Shop Pro 3 and 5, 7, 9, 11. One of the things Corel did was to change it from Paint Shop Pro to PaintShop Pro, which they did after PSP XI. By PSP x4, my next PSP, they had changed it.

I know it is an older thread but although I have always used PSP9 for scripting, and it works fine on my desktop with Windows 10, I had a hard drive failure on my laptop. Now, with a new hard drive and Windows 10, PSP9 just won't install. It hangs at "registering modules".

I do have all the versions, up to 2022, and that last one installed perfectly, but I do need PSP9 for scripting and testing. Any suggestion?
