IMPORTING DIGITAL MEDIA

Post by Winifred »

Hello

Can anyone shed any light on as to why I can't import digital media from a DVD disc. I've tried to upload a picture of the files in question but I got the following message. It was only a photo so I don't know what it is going on. It's a VIDEO TS VOB FILE.

The attachment’s file size is too large, the maximum upload size is 2 MB.
Please note this is set in php.ini and cannot be overridden.

Thanks

The error message is quite simply telling you that the file you are trying to load to the forum is to big - you need to make it smaller - reduce it's physical size - decrease it's resolution - check the file size to make sure it is below 2Mb before uploading it

Regards your Digital Media problem - you haven't given us much to go on - after you have selected Import Digital Media a window opens - do you browse down to the folder on the DVD - do you then click to tick all the correct boxes in the route to it

What happens then - do you get any error messages - what do they say

Hello. I know I haven’t given you much to go on.

I click on add digital media in the Capture Mode. It brings up my list of locations. I navigate to my dvd drive and click on the file Video TS but nothing happens. No error message just no response.

I thought screen shots were the correct size for attaching but obviously not. I’ll have another go tomorrow.

Thank you for responding.

There’s obviously something wrong with the program as far as I know I’m doing everything correct to retrieve the media. No error messages at all.

Hi
Try copying the entire contents of the disc to your hard drive then try Import Digital Media from those files.

I'm now able to import the digital media. I tried a different DVD and it worked ok so maybe something wrong with the other disc I was trying to import media from. However VS is importing as 4.3 aspect ratio and not 16.9. Am I able to alter this.

Thank you,.

I would have thought that depended on what frame size the video on the DVD used. If it was 4:3, then that is what you would get...

No it was 16.9. It plays widescreen on the tv too. Thanks.

Hi
The Digital Import option does not recode the video, it literally copies the Vob data giving it a Mpeg extension, Vob files are Mpeg2 type video.
I would think the disc was made in 4:3 ratio.
Playing the discs on TV may display as 16:9, your TV could be performing a smart zoom and with auto up-scaling could look pretty good although details top and bottom of the video frame would be hidden.
Effectively it is zooming into the frame to remove the borders left and right.
Video Studio can do that but zooming in to the frame will reduce the quality a little.

You may be best to add the video to a widescreen frame (16:9) yes you will have a border left and right but you will view the entire video.
Unless the loss of detail top and bottom is acceptable then you can create a 16:9 video without borders.
